that sounds like a blocked rad or water pipe or head gasket mate, are you sure you did it up tight enough when you re did it :(:(

Well, I have found the problem. I have been fooked over by 'so called' professionals yet again. The other day my mate offered to pop up to Burtons to pick up my gaskets... I gave him a list and implicit instructions to get the correct gaskets.

Me being me, i'm an awkward bastard, so I have the rare 1300 pre crossflow. This differs to a normal pre cross as it has pretty much a crossflow block (barring followers and core plugs). I get a call from my mate who wants to double check the gaskets they are trying to give him, of which they were telling him I need a pre cross sump gasket to go with my pre cross headset. "No" I said, it has to be crossflow.

Anyway, that got sorted... or did it????

No it didn't, because they have given him a crossflow head gasket which has made my engine boil over. Today I pop over there to pick up a spare sump gasket and head gasket. I said to the mush... "That is a pre cross head gasket isnt it?" He said "yep, they are the same, but I will ask someone". That someone also said yep, they're the same.

Well Burton Power... they're not!!! My new head gasket is a feckin' crossflow one

Where's me drill???

Some people make you wanna shit, eh? Feel for your troubles, mate. Still, everything in good time. Best to get all the hassle and headaches out of the way now rather than later.

Feel for you too mate...

I am amazed you're having all this trouble, I always run a BDT gasket from Cosworth £78 + vat and post, and didn't even know there was a difference.

Please explain again - sorry - perhaps a photo?? Pretty please.

Edit BDT not BDA

Well I think I am going to sell up!

Got the head gasket sorted, pulled half the engine apart to fit it, put it all back together again & started it up. Yep, lovely, the water level dropped a bit, and then there was a squealing noise. The fairy has lost all it's oil pressure.

I have just come in after spending the whole afternoon getting absolutley no-where. To be honest I am so very close to tears it's untrue... it's been kick in the stomach time after time, but I persisted. This though is the straw that broke the camels back, I can't handle it anymore.

Sounds like my Capri. I now have £5300 invested in a sodding MK3 Laser and last week when fitting new seats it decided to show me the rot it's developed in the floor so it looks like the passenger seat is coming back out and it's getting its first plate ever.

Bitch.

My engine was in and out at least a dozen times before things settled down and it got reliable (ish). Yeah, it's frustrating at the time but it's worth it in the end.

Stick with it Jimbob..

I am more than happy to come over and help mate!! I have become quite good at changing head gaskets and the probs they throw up now:)

Dont sell it though.........True! you have had a bitch of a time but it is always worth it for those few precious moments you get when everything is good;)

We would all sell up otherwise

Have a couple of days away from the bloody thing Jim, you'll feel a bit better and maybe plan a new attack. Have you considered asking Colin Ashton to sort it for you, at least you'll know its been done right then mate.

Thanks for the words peep's  Although after sleeping on it, I am still considerings selling it.

But I have had an idea. As Burton Power have supplied the wrong head gasket on 2 consecutive occasions, I have decided to persue legal advice. I feel they are negligent for supplying the wrong parts, even though on both occasions they have been asked if they are definatley the right parts, and both times they have said they were.

Sorry to here about your troubles mate.

As the lads have said, just throw it in the corner for a couple of weeks and ignore it for a while

Wish you luck with Burton but based on past experience don´t rely on getting any help (or money) from that direction.

Is there nowhere on here that can give you a hand with the engine?

Dont give up mate, at least you haven´t reversed it into a wall yet!!
