kevmk2 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Have you been in a 200 bhp+ pinto??? They are soo fast for the road Would see off most n/a 16v engines, unless your pushing 240 bhp + Pintos just have loads of low down grunt.great for the road. I had a 340 bhp cossy mk2 a few years back ,fast as f**k with a proper built engine, but me pinto is faster to 60mph and cheaper!! Cheers Darran, its a good peice of info that. why was the 0-60 time longer with the turbo? 0-60 is usually slower on a turbo'd escort due to wheelspin, but its the 0-100mph that is much faster, ive never heard or seen an aspirated escort do 0-100 in 6 or 7 seconds before
SAF_Capri Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 could/does a N/A XE perform like a N/A Cossie?
Mk 1 Mark Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 could/does a N/A XE perform like a N/A Cossie? Sure do. . . .

SAF_Capri Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 if an N/A XE performs like an N/A cossie than why dont more people go this route?
Toby Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 if an N/A XE performs like an N/A cossie than why dont more people go this route? It's probably considered by some a bit non-original to put a vauxhall in a ford - but why not, as you say a good lump !!
Toby Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 0-60 is usually slower on a turbo'd escort due to wheelspin, but its the 0-100mph that is much faster, ive never heard or seen an aspirated escort do 0-100 in 6 or 7 seconds before I think Dave Colledge is near the 100 in 7 seconds, but appreciate that has been slightly breathed on with the lightening brush!! Never say never! 0-60 is usually slower on a turbo car cos there is 4 seconds of turbo lag they then only take a second to do 5mph to 60! The same can be said for the 90-100 mph time - 4 seconds to wait for the turbo 1 second to speed up 10 mph!! But 'tis true - turbo car do seem to get a BIG charge on - sometimes even in time to be in the race.
Guest Guest Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 the uk,s fastest normal comfy street legal escort is running an atmo yb engine . It only has 215bhp but runs 13.2 sec 1/4's and gaz said he'll toast any street legal naturally aspirated (without gas) xe's , hondas , duratecs , rotarys etc that turn up for a race.

I really *would* like to see him beat a 400-brake n/a rotary. I'd shut right up about them if he did.
Wessie Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Go for an XE, just look at the super quick rally escorts, alot of them run XE's
TwoLitrePinto Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Ok, i take it you have read this months classic ford? join the 200bhp club article? tells you how to get 200bhp+ out of a pinto, Vauxhall XE redtop, N/a YB cossie, ZetecE (with duratec label on top lol), Duratec HE, and if u fancy spending an amazingly stupid £20000, a 2.2 xflow!!! but apart from that, about the dearest one is the pinto at about £3500 due to the crank grinding needed to get it to 2.2 and the headwork needed. a 2.0 redtop XE looks like one of the best options, and these are quite bulletproof engines, ive seen a lot of these running atleast 200bhp and raced regularly with no problems atall. im trying to persuade my mate to throw one in his 05 plate 1.4 sxi corsa lol

Terry you will have to mention to him about the 11th of august at brands .. Ricky Hutchings .. Matt downer .. Andy Pipe .. Turkish, Broadmoor.. Adrian Hall .. be good to see him and eLENOR there ..

I'm not going to argue that the Pinto isn't the most expensive one to get that figure out of, but it's not down to the crank grinding. That's not an expensive part of the process at all.
Rick Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 i dont think its so much the crank grind i think its cuz the stroke is increased and requires machining inside the block so the conrods dont bash the sides then again i could be talking piffle

Agree with vista... The biggest expense is the Head really and at that sort of power you also need accralite or similar pistons too. After that, its the 48's at around £800 + linkage etc.
richie_stix Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Someone please tell me ........... HOW THE HELL DOES THIS LITLE THING MAKE 400 BHP!!!????? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-ROTOR- ... enameZWD2V proably said before but... it is firing 3x per crank rotation as opposed to the 1/4 on a normal combustion engine!
richie_stix Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 200bhp out of the box ~ 2.9 24v (boa) dump the CAT,s & fit later bob cams for about 220/230bhp + loadsa FUN when i have some funds..... this is the one for me

Doesn't actually, not if you look at how they work. Fires 3 times per turn of the ROTOR, and 1 turn of the rotor turns the crank 3 times. So effectively, you've got 2-stroke power delivery of a power stroke every crank rev.
