Tom Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 For those of you that keep your OSF as a second, weekend car. doesn't it p*ss you off that you've gotta pay year long car tax for a car thats only on the road 20% of the time? i reckon if you've got a limited mileage insurance policy you should only pay limited car tax discuss
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I agree mate, well almost! Yes my Capri is a daily driver, but it is on a limited mileage policy of 6000 miles a year. Tax is £96 I think for 6 months!!! My Anglia is my second car, but it is tax exempt!!! One Up to the government!
orionmojo Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 weekend car thats tax exempt, its gotta be the way forward
RedexRob Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I do feel strongly they should roll the taxation free law back 1 year every year , how long has it been since they amended it to 1972 ?

Admin Vista Posted September 11, 2006 Admin Report Posted September 11, 2006 I do feel strongly they should roll the taxation free law back 1 year every year , how long has it been since they amended it to 1972 ? One of the first thing the car haters did when they came to power mate. I'm not sure I agree that the 25 year tax status should be reinstated completely though. Think of the number of early 80's death traps that would be clamouring for it now, Bonafide classics that are properly maintained then yes I agree, but would you want a rotten 1980 metro botch repaired for its MOT every year so the owner could save on car tax? My suggestion? Make it part of the MOT for anyone attempting to claim the 25 year tax exemption, it'd be easy for an MOT tester to distinguish between a well maintained classic and a botched 25 year old death trap, even if it passes the MOT it could be dangerous 3 weeks later.

Pipster007 Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Tax should just be used for holding down carpets

LUKE261 Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 i love handing my insurance and mot cetificates etc over at the post office 2 get my tax and no money gets handed over and instead of all you PLG boys mine says HISTORIC!!
Admin Vista Posted September 12, 2006 Admin Report Posted September 12, 2006 cant u change the id to that of a tax free car? You can if you wish to take the risk of getting busted. In truth it's a lot harder to tell with cars the age of ours than it is with more modern metal. As long as you don't make any obvious mistakes like registering it on a plate when the car simply wasn't available. A Mk1 RS2000 on a K plate for instance would attract two lots of unwanted attention, you'd either get the "it's a replica" folk busting your chops or you'd get the ones that realised it was the real thing but clearly had had an ID change. The latter is ok providing it's not the wrong person that spots it.
