Admin Vista Posted September 23, 2008 Admin Report Posted September 23, 2008 Any sky engineers on here? I keep getting a message on the screen saying no satellite signal is being received. Only it works with some channels and not others plus even the channels it doesn't work on will work intermittently (except of course when I actually want to watch them). I've done the sky customer "service" thing where they tell you to switch it off and on again, checked the signal strength, quality and lock etc and all are good so I get the "we'll have to send an engineer round £65 call out charge" blurb and said thanks but no thanks I'll just cancel. Anyone any advice before I cancel them?
mk3cokebottle Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 give ya veiwing card a wipe mate , also do you have a telephone line installed in it ?? if you do make sure its connected proper

D4N Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 "we'll have to send an engineer round £65 call out charge" What is the world coming to... its all about money these days
Dr Feelgood Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 we get that but we turned off everything for 5 minutes and it was sorted try this http://www.stevelarkins.freeuk.com/sky_tv_guide.htm
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I had that problem, and Sky replaced the box with an amstrad. That worked for about an hour before the same thing happened, so that got replaced by another amstrad. That worked for about an hour, and that got replaced by a third amstrad. That worked for about two hours, so I rang I told them I didn't want an amstrad. The engineer guy (who had been out three of the four times) said Amstrad ones are shite and gave me the only other non amstrad one he had in his van. I've got the Sky box cover.
Fiesta Steve Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Sky box cover ?? Do you have to pay for that ?? I've had a couple of boxes out of them for free and have no cover. Just phone them up and ask to be put through to cancellations and you'll have a new box and an engineer on your doorstep before you can put the phone down. They DO NOT want you to cancel !! ...and if you haven't got Sky+ then read here; http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... ht=#853662 Sky+ for free , I've got mine
Admin Vista Posted September 24, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted September 24, 2008 Nice idea Steve but I suspect they'll smell a rat as I've already reported a fault to customer services.
Stu_B Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I had that at my old house.... was a bush that had grown up over the dish
Fiesta Steve Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Nice idea Steve but I suspect they'll smell a rat as I've already reported a fault to customer services. Just tell them you want to cancel as you can't afford the repair costs, they'll still give you a free box, trust me, I'm a Doctor Its your monthly payment they don't want to lose. Save the free sky+ box for another day
Admin Vista Posted September 24, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted September 24, 2008 I had that at my old house.... was a bush that had grown up over the dish Surely that would mean it didn't work on any channels? Mine works on some, not on others and intermittently on some. A friend of mine has an almost new box that was left spare when he upgraded to Sky + shortly after it was installed. I'll try that first, are viewing cards interchangeable between boxes?
richie_stix Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 we find bad rain, or electrical storms do it to ours... best bet is to turn it all off at the plug make a brew and fire it back up we never have ours plugged in to the phone either... some days it just balls up!
mk2estate Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 mine is always telling me that my remote needs new batteries even after i've just put some in? sky sent me a new remote about 6 months ago but that's started doing it in the last couple of weeks
trissybabes Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 "we'll have to send an engineer round £65 call out charge" What is the world coming to... its all about money these days That's exactly why we cancelled our Sky contract last December. Came home one evening after a storm to see the dish flapping about where the bracket had rusted and they said it would be £65 to just turn and look at it - and tell us the bracket was rusted and that's why the dish is flapping about. We tried some local aerial "specialists", who all said the earliest they could come was February so we decided that as most of the stuff we watch is on the Freeview channels and the rest of it is utter shite anyway, we pulled the dish down and cancelled it. The only thing I've really missed since we did that was "Lost" but we haff alternative means of vatching that now...
antz Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 my dad fitted our dish and wired in all 4 sky boxes in our house. 3 of them we just use as a freeview box to get some extra channels and the other one my dad bought the sky card for it. none of them have phone lines plugged in. we dont pay any subscription fees and we get some free channels! ok the channels are only thigns like ITV 2,3 ,4 ZONE HORROR, TRAVEL CHANNEL, FIVE US etc etc etc but a little of something is better than a lot of nothing.
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Sky??? Isn't it blue with little fluffy white clouds on it?
Fiesta Steve Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Sky??? Isn't it blue with little fluffy white clouds on it? Ours is black with cobwebs
5hane Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 FREE VIEW FOR THE WIN !!!!!!!!! good luck fixing it
Admin Vista Posted September 27, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted September 27, 2008 Sorted, looks like my box was tits up, It is 5 years old (at least) I suppose. Swapped it with a friends box that he didn't need as he upgraded to Sky + when it was less then 3 months old and it all seems to be back up again.
