right ive arranged to go pick up my cappe rform slim tomorrow and was planning on hiring a trailer on the way just rang te trailer hire place to make sure i can and turns out since i only just passed my test and the law has been changed i cant tow a trailer till i pass a trailer test ... i would get my dad to do it and come with me but he is in france (well he will be im taking him there in my break from work)

Get someone else to hire it for you and you just use it then, I think only getting your licence pre 1997 allows you to tow, but i'v hired and borrowed trailers hundreds of times and never even had a second look :D

i bit the bullet and went for the big hole in the pocket method of getting a recovery company to do it £95 to do it tomorrow morning

 

thats seems a good price m8, how many miles away is the car then?

It only becomes a problem when you have a problem and then your insurance is invalid and the injured third parties start coming after you personally...

Indeed it's a little known fact that slipped through almost unnoticed (much like the GB's changes tom Historic vehicle status). Passing your test now means significantly less than it used too, I have all sorts of groups on my Licence that I wouldn't get if I were to sit it again now.

Yeah I'm having a right time getting the escy home as I've got to get my brother to tow it and pick up the trailer ...

Thats not bad really. At least they have to be insured if they damage it

Have you got the horse and cart detail on your licence lol

Got the following groups (all but motorcycle used to be standard when you passed your test)

 

A motorcycle

 

B car

 

BE car & trailer

 

B1 Motor tricycles / quadricycles, 3 or 4 wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight not exceeding 550kg

 

C1 Vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer up to 750kg

 

C1E Vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer over 750kg - total weight not more than 12000kg (if you passed your category B test prior to 1.1.1997 you will be restricted to a total weight not more than 8250kg)

 

D1 Vehicles with between 9 and 16 passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg

 

D1E Combinations of vehicles where the towing vehicle is in subcategory D1 and its trailer has a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of over 750kg, provided that the MAM of the combination thus formed does not exceed 12000kg, and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle

 

F Agricultural tractors

 

K Mowing machine or vehicle controlled by a pedestrian

 

L Not listed on DVLA's site so no idea :?

 

N Not listed on DVLA's site so no idea :?

 

P Mopeds

 

 

As I recall passing a test now only gets you 2 groups, B (car) and one other, anyone know what?

i only just got my lience in time before they changed it :D ...and they had also just brought out the theroy test....you could do pratcial or theroy which ever order you wished until they changed it,even getting the lorry lience they make you re do the theroy test.....really hard...............not
