sambo Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Reliable? or just as tempermental as the BD series engines?? I cant see why a Holbay/warrior engine would be any less reliable and fragile as a N/A cossie or something?
Toby Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 The Warrior is more reliable than a BD as they make their power at lower rev's. A BD at 10,000rpm plus is a ticking bomb, and a must have!
MexDan Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 These are cracking engines if you can afford one in the first place... not cheap!! AA few of the Irish Rally boys are running them.. very quick. They sound good imo, but not as nice as a BD.. but then you wont have to rebuild it every few hundred miles.. They are great engines.. I doubt they would be much cheaper than the N/A cossie you were looking at..
sambo Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I lost out on the N/A cossie. He changed his mind all of a sudden just wondering about the warrior engines as there are a few about and they do seems to pop up regularly too. Its only a matter of saving! .......... and they look very. very cool too!!
tim Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 jason lepley has an engine for sale on the rallye sport escort forum at the moment
richie_stix Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 you talkin bout the twin cam pinto head? cos if you are.....
Billy_smith Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Got one thing to say Simon Mckinley!!! hes running a beast of a warrior and looks like it takes some stick aswell
livewire7116 Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 So what sort of horse power to the pound do you get then?
Retromotorsport Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Sambo, you should have been at the last round of the DMN (Andy Pipe races in it ) you could have had a chat with Tim Swadkin, now you'll have to wait till next year, Or phone him at Connaught Engines
CapperTom Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Connaught still make these heads, i spoke too him once and said it would be roughly 6 grand for a complete head But also could be looking at 300ish bhp with right set up
Toby Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Warrior stuff here.... http://www.connaughtengines.co.uk/warrior.asp

sambo Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Sambo, you should have been at the last round of the DMN (Andy Pipe races in it ) you could have had a chat with Tim Swadkin, now you'll have to wait till next year, Or phone him at Connaught Engines I have been meaning to get down to brands for that for ages. Im very dissapointed in myself for not getting down there Anyway, the warrior engine is a lovely bit of kit but the one Jason Lepley has for sale is out of my price range for the moment. Could anyone really justify spending £9000 on just an engine for their toy that only comes out on sunny weekends!!??? I was wondering if they were tempermental as most rally bred engines seem to be but it seems not. I would bloody love it though! The search for an engine continues!...........................
tim Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 the tempermental engine comment confuses me,why would a rally engine be any more tempermental than any other, plenty of bda out on the rac over the weekend being buzzed to 8k/9k for 3 days solid
MexDan Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 the tempermental engine comment confuses me,why would a rally engine be any more tempermental than any other, plenty of bda out on the rac over the weekend being buzzed to 8k/9k for 3 days solid Agreed.. if an engine is built well and kept running well even in a so called tempremental rally spec then there is no reason why it shouldnt be just as reliable as any other tuned engine... Rally engines are built to be strong because of the way they are used... if they were tempremental most cars would drop out after the first stage!!!
sambo Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Well, its just that you never hear of a warrior twink being used on the road or even for a track day car. Then again, that is more than likely due to the price!! I for some reason associate rally spec engines as tempermental but i guess your right in saying they arent any less reliable than any other tuned engine. its just the abuse they get on the stages.
livewire7116 Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 A £9000 xe in 2.0 ltr form will produce more than 245bhp
sambo Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 A £9000 xe in 2.0 ltr form will produce more than 245bhp What about the torque figure? 195lbft !!
john_3.0s Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 A £9000 xe in 2.0 ltr form will produce more than 245bhp any you would get a couple of free calibras I think sam wants to go oldskoool justifying the expense for a top power motor may be hard tho! cant you get a 3.1 essex in there?
sambo Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 Gotta be a 4 banger screamer John! I hate being engine less!!
SmokeEm Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 Why not just go for a 230 bhp Pinto from the Harris clan or Elvy/Ashton etc?
sambo Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 Cos i'm a tart and i want a twin cam engine in there! (cos they look nice) Also, i think that kind of power from a pinto is not acheivable on pump fuel is it??
