So, got a loan for £2k today.....

 

Should i buy.....

 

1) 1994 BMW 730i Auto. 112k full leather, air con, 18s, LPG, fbsh, MOT aug TAX march £1850

 

2) 1998 VW Passat 1.8 20v Turbo Sport, Black, all the toys, 142k FVWSH, no tax, 12 months MOT £1995

 

Help me choose!

 

NB, BMW, actual pic...VeeDub, generic pic but i imagine it looks like that

i'd go for the beemer if you don't mind auto dude, personally i'd go for the passat just cos it'd be manual

Hopefully. Its also plumbed up for LPG, just not a got a tank. Also, with the amount of driving i do, i dont really want to be stirring a manual all the time.

Engines run on LPG last for ever. Check the oil, it should be clean not black like petrol cars. Same as the exhaust the tail pipe will be clean inside. Carbon isn't a by product of the burnt gas keeping the inside of the engine very clean so no build up of sludge if oil changes arn't kept up etc, ultimatly results in less wear.

I was offered a 728i auto (with sport mode) with every concievable option for £2500 and that was on a R plate '98 !! AND it had LESS then a 100k on clock.

That was a 50+ grand car 8 years ago, another 2-3 years it'l be a grand - 1500quid tops.

i know someone that bought a useable 7 series for £100 then a week later a sporty 3 series for £100 with just a slipping power steering belt

I voted Passat but would look for a TDI.

 

In truth, I'd look for a 406 Executive 110 HDi, well within a £2k budget and a top spec motor. I bought one as a cheap motor expecting to hate it but being prepared to endure it till it's Old Skool time again in the Spring. Truth is I think it's great

expensive cars mate with expensive spares. choose wisely cos if yu buy another lemon your 2 grand out of pocket with 2 ton of scrap on the drive

All will be considered mate. Thing is, out of the 50 or so cars i have owned, beemers are the ones that have never let me down...barr the E28, but that WAS a dog!

I'd go for the 7 series. I love that shape and considered getting one a couple of years ago when I sold my E30.

Passats are just plain dull! they might be a well built car but honestly they are one of the most boring cars I have ever driven. Saying that tough I have only driven a Golf with the 20v turbo engine and that was pretty quick!

7 series are a proper top end car and like madmark said it was about 45-50 grand new, whats a passat 20 tops? the quality is uncompareable!

We sell a lot more passat bits then 7 series bits both new and second hand. I dont know if that suggests that there are more passats on the road then there are 7's or what but if it was my cash it would be the BMW.

I'd go for the Passat, probably get ppl to let you out of junctions if you drove that, you wouldn't get anywhere if you drove the Beemer

But you forget that in a BMW you get your own lane on the motorway and you dont have to move for anyone,Not even the emegency services
