Mick The Cabbie Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I was mad for this car when it appeared back in the early 90's. It still to this day remains as my all time fave OSF. Sadly, I never got to see it in the flesh. All I have on it are a couple of Street Machine articles I'm sure there are peeps on here who knew the car back in the day! Such a fab car and built in a shed. I'm particularly interested in it in it's original incarnation (as in the pics below) rather than the later Pro street version. I believe it was a regular at the Pod and the Celsea cruise and also ran at the Brighton speed trials. Any one who knew the car, what it was like and who have pics(!!) FEEL FREE TO SHARE
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I have that same Street Machine mag somewhere. I think it may have been the first Street Machine I ever bought
Fiesta Steve Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 How strange, I was just thinking about JT'S old car today and how it used to look, I have the same magazine with the 'Its better to burn out' artical. Surely this must have been amongst the first old skool Ford's to recieve a YB lump ?
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I've got that issue somewhere. I also remember a letter and photo from him saying he's having problems getting traction. The photo was of the back end of the car far up the road, with a massive 11 behind him! That was when his anglia was at its best, before he went mad with it.

Fiesta Steve Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Didn't one of them end up on its roof while racing ? Or did I just make that up
Mick The Cabbie Posted February 18, 2009 Author Report Posted February 18, 2009 How strange, I was just thinking about JT'S old car today and how it used to look, I have the same magazine with the 'Its better to burn out' artical. Surely this must have been amongst the first old skool Ford's to recieve a YB lump ? As far as I know, it was the first Anglia to get a turbo'd YB lump. Although a few Escorts had em fitted earlier than that. Didn't one of them end up on its roof while racing ? Or did I just make that up Quite right, it did. That was the second version of it though with the full tube chassis and tubbed rear end etc and in the same colour as the original. The nose lifted and it went over . I think it was then re-built again into another shell but with big spoilers at each end to generate some downforce. It was pale blue that time around. After running like that for a while, I believe the engine + funny car box( ) ended up in his new Focus drag car. The Anglia lived on repainted yellow and running a big block yank lump. I think that cought fire approx 4 years ago and no longer exists either..
Mick The Cabbie Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 I've got that issue somewhere. That was when his anglia was at its best, before he went mad with it. Yep, i totally agree with you on that. The original build was more of a monster road car rather than on out and out drag queen. Strangely enough, thats why the original car interests me more I also have that issue somewhere about the traction problems. Didn't they advise him to 5 link it or something like that?? I always wondered why after having the ingenuity to build a car like that, why would he feel the need to write to Street machine's problem page (with that pic of the massive 11) askin how to get traction? Some kind of piss take me thinks
Mick The Cabbie Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 Am i right in thinking it got wriiten off ,at least its mentioned on the nsra forum recently The blue one in the pics was broken up years ago The original car in the pics I've posted up survived it's time with the Cossie lump. The last time I ever saw it was in a classified advert in the back of Custom car mag with the Cossie lump removed and a hot pinto in it's place. I believe thats when John sold it and used the engine in the newly built drag car..
V8ian Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Now, if my memory serves me right, the RWD Focus was built for export, and went out to the US to promote the launch of the Focus out there, Im 99% sure the engine in that car was not a YB. but a BDT from a RS 200, and I think the last lenco Anglia was also 1700BDT, possibly one of the rally X monster motors that were banned for being too powerful,!!
novanut64 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 the second version was not destroyed it was for sale as a rolling shell on eurodragster last month still taxed+mot'ed set up for bbc
kevmk2 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I never got to see the car in person. Always makes me laugh when you have crew with you to drive in a straight line ' Yeah thats it mate, do a burnout a bit longer, keep it going, i think your tyres are warm, off you go son'

Skimmer Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 As i mentioned on another thread i remember Puddy and John taking there cars to the Chelsea cruise and over the years turned the cars into the cars that inspired others , i know i spent many nights looking/talking to them both and im pretty sure the 1st car did get totalled but John put another together , even faster
Mick The Cabbie Posted February 21, 2009 Author Report Posted February 21, 2009 the second version was not destroyed it was for sale as a rolling shell on eurodragster last month still taxed+mot'ed set up for bbc I stand corrected then!
