Wessie Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 money back guarantee- if you dont get the car i will refund you
Twinkle Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 they normally get pulled by ebay, ask for pics of the car m8 and the reg number
Admin Vista Posted December 11, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 11, 2006 It's just a line he's added to try and reduce the chances of ebay pulling the listing. It's a breach of ebay policy selling V5's, and I doubt the auction will go the distance without being pulled.
Mr Sam Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 think i seen it a few weeks ago see if i riveted the plates on me fiesta and sent it off............would i get free tax
Tom Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 he's basically selling a shell that has rotted away completely and all that is left is a bucket of rust and the vin tags
flyingbanana Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 he has also changed the pic has the other day you could see his address etc
escort new boy Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 my dad sold a mexico log book before
emu Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 If you were to use the identity on another car then you'd be ringing it. Yes its dodgy.
Posse Posted December 11, 2006 Author Report Posted December 11, 2006 thanks rich ill have to get bidding then
Posse Posted December 11, 2006 Author Report Posted December 11, 2006 lol new strut tops does that count pmsl
emu Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 thing is, whats the real chances of you getting caught? most old escorts have had the VIN welded over by now anyway so the only numbers that ID it are on the tags.
emu Posted December 11, 2006 Report Posted December 11, 2006 unless you were re shelling it Doesnt that have to be with an unregistered shell though? Otherwise the new shell would already have its own ID wouldnt it. lol new strut tops does that count pmsl Had to take the suspension off didnt you?? There you go then
Rick Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 hes basically selling a mexico identity. legally you have to sell it with the car which is why he says that in the listing...
Onyx Dave Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 A lot of Mexs where used in rallying in there early days and may have had a `Sevice Shell` used, which has no VIN number on strut top or tag on slam panel. I use to own a 72 black Mex which had a later shell that was a type 49 shell from Ford as was total in rallying, you try explaning to a buyer why it had a clutch cable hole and late rear suspension on an early car!
Jelly Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 As tempting as it may be to have Mex on your V5, you'll lose your vehicle if it emerges that you have ringed it..

Beg to differ, service shell's do have a body plate, but you're right in saying that they don't have the VIN number on the strut top. My car received a T49 service shell and has the colour as PRIMER (I think it actually says PRIME) on the body plate, that confuses a few people too.
Onyx Dave Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Most people take that tag off and put the old one back on, we do at work but we also make a note in the service book and put it on the computer system.
Admin Vista Posted December 12, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 12, 2006 If I knew what my original one said I'd have one made up to match it so I didn't get all the questions, it doesn't bother me personally but a few people have asked about it. Hey ho everybody's different eh?
MadMark2 Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Many years ago me and my mate "reshelled" one of his mk1 escorts. Mint shell 1.1 running gear Shite shell 1700xflo + rs running gear Started at 8am By 7pm everything was swoped from 1 shell to the other (including chassis tags) Best thing was both cars were red........
tim Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 i think if a shell is 2 far gone then the id should go the same way, only way 2 reshell a car should be with a brand new unstamped shell
Rick Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 As tempting as it may be to have Mex on your V5, you'll lose your vehicle if it emerges that you have ringed it.. where would you draw the line between ringing and reshelling??? my car is using a mex logbook but the shell is not type 49 (and all that crud) and how hard is it to get a number stamped in your top plate? not hard really so am i ringing or restoring? im certainly not doing it to sell as a type 49... i hate the politics of car restoration especially when it comes to this RS shell business. it spoils the scene and the fun of restoring.
Admin Vista Posted December 13, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 13, 2006 I'd say ringing is a term that has come about from crooks hiding a stolen cars identity in order to sell it, and is quite different to using a donor shell to restore a rotten car. BUT, if you change an ID to gain tax exemption by using a shell that already has a clearly established identity and isn't tax exempt, I guess if someone was feeling anal about it you could have your collar felt. Come to think of it if you don't have a VIN stamped into the body you don't even need to reshell it to achieve this, two pop rivets and a new VIN plate later you've saved yourself a few hundred each year. Now that I'm certain you could get in trouble for if you were caught.
