So what's the fastest you've been in a car?

I think most people agree with you anyway.

Personally I'd happily trade more traffic cops for less Speed cameras and revenue vans thinly disguised as "safety" cameras

I don't think there is anything on the roads today that alienates the average motorist more than these thinly disguised cash cows.

Totally agree!!! I hate speed cameras, they make a stretch of road about 20 meters either side of the camera safe, as in the speed, but everyone just speeds up when you pass them and how many times do you see tyre marks before the camera, how safe is that making ppl do an emergency brake test?? Its all crap anyway

yeah, i know for one that i was quite a grown up driver but some of my mates were just idiots at the young age

maybe a bhp limit might help but there are ways round that (just fitting gearboxes with better ratios to help it off the line etc). wouldn't help against drivers that play chicken with other cars

and i, for one, would totally agree with daggle's comments on more traffic cops, cos i'm sure they'd love to make the roads safer like the rest of us

well i'm plesantly surprised ... theres a lot of sensible people posting here .. the thread starter though..

If anyone wanted to do 200mph (which is very doubtfull on a dual carrigeway) with me as a passenger, the moment they stopped the car I would be kicking the living daylights out of them.

And the Racedriver .... well he should know better , if he wants to keep his race licence

How many of these ppl have added a few mph on though!!

Plus i bet that not many speedos were calibrated either, so you could have a 10% + or - on what is actually showing on your speedo.

that's a good point, although i got caught doing 40 in the same car that recorded 100 and the speedo only said 36 or there abouts :? the speedo did wobble around like a kid with ADD though until it got up to speed

it does all come back to time and place tho. where i managed that (deserted dual carriage way, j27 of m1 then head towards notts) they've installed traffic lights half way down for crossing traffic cos some kids in a corsa got killed when someone pulled across them.

Yeah I agree with that too.

On motorways I rarely go above 80 in my Celica and 70 in my Anglia. But quite often when I'm driving to manchester twice a week it's impossible to go above 60 because of the wagons.

The only time I may speed on other roads is in 50 zones or national speed limit roads where there are no houses, cars or people around. And that's only for a few seconds while I have a blast and listen to the throttle bodies suck, and then the exhaust burble when I lift off...

i tend to drive how they taught me on my emergency course, stick to the limits unless its a national and its safe to do so

Ahhh yes the GLF signs......

fpmsl at least i dont have to do that commentry stuff anymore

I used to come out with a load of rubbish....

I can see bin bags, therefore there might be bin men walking in the road

You just talk rubbish, the faster you drive the less you have to comment on though.

Its just to help when you actually have a pursuit though, it focuses your mind on what is important so you can give out those DRA's

funny you should say that...ive just got 3 points and i was driving at 30mph to the speedo and i got stopped has i was apparently doing '37' this is a mini which has no different size wheels than it was made in 1972...

also i think that traffic police try and be crafty ....hiding behind a wall...or having some one standing up the road (not in uniform) radio the traffic cops that they should stop suh car...i think you know what i mean.....i know they are doing there job but thats just being very sly ,ive also heared story's off police going around cars at venue's and looking for out of tax disks...........

Well the tax disc one is fair enough it is the law same with insurance and MOT if you ain't got it you can't drive it thats what i say, free tax on the anglia helps though

What's wrong with looking out for out of date tax discs, it costs me a lot money to keep my ST170 on the road, why should other ppl not pay for there tax?? Plus if the tax disc is out of date, its fairly reasonable to say that the driver might not have insurance, might even be disqual??

maybe ........but still sly with all the comment i made before........sorry but its winds me up......what about getting the real people......like car thief's or Burglary etc.....how many topics have been opened in the past with peoples cars being nicked and most of them are never seen again...most people pay for the tax etc...but all i see from having all the stupid speed cameras and fixed fines is for more police funding...build more speed bumps if need to be even tho my mini hates them

Posted

no more speed bumps pleeezzzeeee, not that you need them with the state of the roads round here.

the police can only do so many things, and chasing tax will sometimes lead to keeping unsafe cars off the road. the old addage, if you've not broken the law then you've got nothing to fear....

aww how fast in a car? now do u mean my own car? or works car :D lol as 4 points wow plz im on my 3rd licence dont ask lmfao got 3 on the licence i got now 2many plus on last licence b4 i accidently lost it :D

I Fookin hate tax dodgers, they should be nicked and crushed strait away no questions. Personaly i thing trafic cops get a bad press i would rather see more of them than cameras. I speed but at a time place and conditions allow and if i get caught on a M-way then fair cop i know at all times what speed i am doing no point in argueing the toss you just make yourself look a cock. Its the drivers that arent aware how fast they are going or mondeo man still doing 90 on the M42 at rush hour. And poor lane dissapline dont even get me started on that!!

Its not always the young driver though, i suffered at the hands of a 46 yr old highways worker overtaking on a blind bend with double white lines in a 3.5t Iveco van, I spent 5 weeks in hosp with a smashed pelvis, gonna be plaged for rest of my life with trouble. Him no injury, 12 month ban £2000 fine and a advanced test when his 12 months is up. Traffic police are the ones that ensure these people are able to be brought to justice, aswell of having to ring peoples familys to give info no one wants to hear, at this time of year could you do it? Big respect to you haggle i couldnt.

:? arrrgggghhhh I hate TLAs, WTF is a GLF FFS & come to think of it I've no idea what a DRA is either but it doesn't sound like something I want to be on the receiving end of if it's dispensed by a man in a white hat getting out of an aggressive looking unmarked Volvo with a displeased look on his face

Does anybody else think as the traffic cop approaches "yeah yeah I know I've done wrong, now if you're gonna give me a ticket please dispense with the lecture first"

On the other hand if you're not gonna give me a ticket feel free to give me any lecture you like :P

The GLF's are the National speed limit signs, otherwise known as the Go Like Fu**s

and a DRA is just a boring Dynamic Risk Assesment, something that has to be done everytime the situation changes in a pursuit
