So, I'm selling my ex-BTCC Capri as I can't bear to chop her up before stuffing a BIG V8 in...

Until the other day, it was a dead cert that I'd find & buy a half-decent Capri shell, cut & shut that, to end up with something a little like this (who am I kidding: It would look identical):

And then........ I remembered my old Mk2 Granny languishing in the back of the shed... and I got to thinking. This is always a dangerous state of affairs, so I attempted to quell any thoughts by drinking lots of beer. This worked temporarily....

So, fellow OSF fans, what should I use as a basis of my 500bhp V8 monster - a Capri or Granada?

I'd probably sell my Granny & buy a more basic/more rusty one - mine's dead straight & almost entirely rust-free (and the aircon still works!) - so the other question; if the Granny wins, should I do an estate (ala BTCC Volvo...) or saloon?

Also - if anyone fancies attempting to photoshop a granny estate/saloon with big wing & spoiler in the same colours (black+yellow Starsky'n'Hutch stripe), I'd be forever grateful :D

capri dont know why  but defo capri

Hmmmmm, nope, I can't think of any plausible reason either

The more I think about it, though, the more I really like the idea of a granny estate hooning around the track :) It'd just be so........ different. It may just be too damn big, though, perhaps I'd be better off with a Cortina estate instead?......

uh-oh, there's that thinking thing happening again. Must be beer o'clock!

Thanks for all the replies & votes... more would still be welcome (not that this is a "bump" in any way, oh no indeedy....)

BTW, I've passed on all the kind comments about the Capri in the pics to Dad (who built her) - he's now insufferably smug, damnit.

In case anyone's interested in the specs (and I can only remember some of them):

  • - FIA GT sized wheels (20"x12 IIRC), for cheaper racing tyres (part-worns from GT teams)
    - BMW V8 engine from an M5, VANOS (variable valve malarkey) removed, DTA ECU added giving an estimated 460bhp.
    - Matching BMW 6-speed box.
    - Carbon fibre bonnet & wings; fibreglass hatchback door.
    - Front entirely chopped out & replaced with removable airdam/spoiler/grille & two steel tie-bars.
    - Doors are just outer skins with latch operated by wires.
    - Sills, arches and rear wing hand-fabricated from aluminium.
    - Front suspension: Gas McPherson strut with compression struts, fully rose-jointed
    - Rear suspension: Live axle with coil-over shocks & some kind of Z-shaped arrangement holding it all in the middle. I'll check when I'm back off my holidays what exactly it is (because I'll need one too :))
    - Electric power steering (courtesy of a Vauxhall Corsa, and some bloke on eBay who makes a speed sensor elimination kit)
    - X-dash electronic dashboard

She's a very cool piece of kit...

Depends innit.

If it's gonna be a mad mad racer then a capri.

But a Granny estate will make such a good sleeper. It's even called a granny

I'd say Granny estate,.Purely for the sleeper element.

However that Capri does look rather awesome!!Except for the snowplough bit :?
