Okay I've had capris ever since I was 16, at the moment I have a modified 2.0, but every time I go and do any work on it, or go out to clean it, it depresses me that it will never be as mint as I want it to be.

I mean its far from hanging but for me to be happy with it I would need to give it to a body shop along with a few grand. not to mention the problems which seem to be developing with the engine.

Also starting a new job in september which is going to be a 20 mile round trip each day in the traffic is going to cost me a fortune when the car does 18mpg. Its just not practical.

I mean I still love the look of capris more than any other car, and all old fords for that matter, but being a perfectionist I dont know if i'll ever be happy with one unless its 10 grands worth!!

I've come close to buying a 318 bmw recently and giving up with the fords, but in a way I dont want to! what do I do? Does anyone else ever feel the same with their car?

No never

lol

you worry too much - if you dont like the car - then sell it and save for one thats done - throwing lots of money at a car might not be the answer but buying a new one will

dunno

if you want my input don't buy a beemer, look at the cost of parts compared to the cost of parts for an old ford, and you can do most of the work yerself on a ford, beemers have alot of specialist tools and electronics.

when I had old fords (haven't got one now) I always looked at other cars with envy but couldn't afford a mint one myself, so I suppose I was never happy but I did enjoy my cars.

have a long hard think about the pro's and con's of any car before you commit yourself to a different one.

I gave up my old fords went on to jap cars, then bikes, and I don't think I was happy with any of them, now got a 4x4 which is comfy, roomy, cheap and easy to fix and runs on used cooking oil, I think I'm happy with this one............for now.

lifes not perfect so i think you will be hard pushed to get a car that is,and if it was perfect would you use it that much, love it for what it is.

its all about the grin factor

same as above, when i got my mk2 it had a 40bhp 1.3 and every panel was purple, just different shades :D , its taken me 5 years to get it to where i want it, nice 120bhp 1660, all one colour, lol, but i use it everyday, if your worried about running costs, do what i do, i buy a run around every winter, cheap, small engine and keep the beast for playtimes in the nice weather. I currently have a 1996 mondeo estate, 1.8 glx, 12 months MOT, £210 off evilbay, that'll cheer u up.

There is no reason why you can't use your capri daily, I think there may be an issue if its only doing 18mpg, maybe get that investigated. Got a more modern car as a daily now, but things are not always as rosy as you might think, £800 for a clutch anyone!

it doesnt sound too bad to me, 20 miles a day is only 100 a week, you should be able to get that done with £20 especially if you get the car tuned/carb set correctly

My capri is far from mint, its not even good, its bordering on ratty, but I still love it

If your using an old ford for every day use then it will deteriorate. Thats what they do best unfortunatley.

Either use it as your everyday car and forget about it going down hill or keep it garaged, restore it and buy a smoker for your everyday hack.

You just cant have both im afraid. Mine wont even come out when there is the slightest chance of rain!

gotta agree with that, like I said my capri isnt even very nice, but I still bought a mazda pickup to run around in, especially over winter to stop the capri getting worse

The escRot is my daily, but honestly, its in better nick now than when I got my hands on it 3 and a half years ago.

However, I know theres an awful lot more I could and should do to look after it, but I enjoy driving it so much that a

jetwashing underneath, a proper wash and polish once a week seems to do the trick

If you not happy with the capri, have a good think, make a list of jobs, if the list seems unmanagable, maybe then you've got a tough decision to make.
