I've seen them all, everybodys house that I visit has got one, I think I'm the only person in the world with one of those old TV's that are a 4 man lift Anyhow, no matter weather the TV cost £400 or £1400 the picture quality on all of them seem poor, yet the owner does not see it and thinks they are great, probably embarrised to say 'yes I spent a fortune on a telly thats got a poor picture'. So this week I decide to bit the bullet and buy an LCD TV and guess what, within 15 minutes its back in the box and its going back to the shop, its crap like the rest of them. I've reinstated my old 28" telly, threw a few lumps of coal in the back, fired it up and hey presto perfect picture quality, none of this LCD shite. Rant over ! I love my OLDSKOOL telly ps. I bet all the replys will be 'mines alright' , lol

Fiesta Steve Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 got a 60 inch rear projection tv thats quite old skool now bout 8 yrs old and she still just fine I've been thinking about getting a rear projector as they are miles ahead of LCD, will probably have to get one second hand now though, but will about half ther price of a shit LCD. Its a job to find one smaller than 41" though. After doing some research it seems rear projectors might make a bit of a come back as due to the crap picture quality offered by LCD TV.

I'm impressed he can get a picture at all on an LSD I've also still got an old skool telly, 2 of them in fact. The 21" JVC upstairs has been going strong since 1991, it's been through a house flood too! However, as the digital age is upon us I guess I'll have to "upgrade" them both. Anyone else think we're being conned? Much like the music industry with its ever up dating formats that you end up buying the same music on again and again.
Messenjah Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 i had seen them in shops and ast mates houses and thought the picture quality wassnt great at all compared to my big old telly . my tparents decided to get one so i did my research and made sure dsad got a decent one and i tell you what connected to a hd source with high quality cables (im glad i got them free from a mate because the cable im using is £80 a metre) the poicture quality is fantastic ... brings a whole new level to call of duty ... no more guessing is that a person or what ?

antz Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 we only got an LCD tv because ours went BANG and smoked quite a lot one morning. The quality is no where near as good as the old TV. Only good thing is they save space and are lighter to lift. I still use a big old TV in my bedroom at home. cant fault it
BIGKEV Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 I Used to be the Manager In 3 House of Frasers Tv and Audio Department ( Homewares) All I will say is that I had been selling TV's for 6 years and I have never ever bought a TV and I will only ever buy a second hand one as they are a waste of Money these days. Did you know I was the first person in House of Failure to sell a "PLASMA" tv It cost £12,500 and I got £600 for selling the first one and now you can pick up a Plasma TV for what £600 ish .... I would like to buy a Projector ( actual Projector rather than rear projector TV ) but no doubt Em will get sick of waiting for me to decide. I dont want to buy an LCD as I think they are fuzzy and funny what you say about the owners think they are the bees knees lol - its true they are shit lol

I do think that a lot of it comes down to putting a large tv in a small room, if you're sitting too close, its going to be blurred
tazrocks88 Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 close up the picture is crap but i say go look at the sony bravia LCD tv's in a sony shop when they are set up right they are a beutiful picture 10 times more crisp the colour is amazing and with a ps3 on 1080p they are unbeatable so i say a standard tv is ! i am gonna be getting 1 very soon just need 2 find the coins!

Plasma's are better for sport and fast moving pictures but LCD's are better for every day use. Get one that is 1080p and the picture is good. I personally have a Samsung and a Sony one - both very good IMHO. Also, LCD very light but plasmas weigh as much as a small village
Nige S Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 I totally agree, I bought one a couple of years ago, it wasn't cheap and the first thing I watched was a game of football, everytime the ball was punted upfield the TV went out of focus, I'm reliably informed that this is called 'ghosting', back into the box it went and the old TV was reinstalled and is still going strong.

If it was an oldskool CRT it would have to be 4 feet deep and then I wouldn't have room for my sofa As others have said, good on Sky (better channels) and DVD and games but just the same on the 'lesser' channels, as they say "shit in - shit out" Thing is as well that a bigger telly has to stretch the amount of pixels that are transmitted, so the picture can become grainy when the input is poor. Should be fine with your old Betamax or Video 2000 Steve

I have a 50inch LCD, hooked up to my ps3/blueray with HD the right settings on sky, the right leads picture is out of this world.
Mr Sam Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 i bought myself a 19" one with built in dvd and digital......only ever watched a few movies and played the PS2 on it since ive had it ive been reasonably pleased with it though my 11" goodmans is older than me and still going strong, been dropped down the stairs twice
Kelvfoozinda Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 I have a 19" samsung in my room and my digibox is sposed to upscale through hdmi, it looks good still as its a little TV and you dont get any ghosting, we're still rocking the 32" crt in the lounge.
