zetec is good but i think duratec has already proved itself an i personaly find a duratec more desirable but cossie is oldskool an looks at home in my mk1 so for now the yb is staying. yb's arent all that expensive if you use standard parts it gets expensive as soon as you start upgrading there reliable if you dont thrash the arse of them constantly boost them up to high etc etc my sap has done 106,000 all its had is a head gasket an turbo running stage 1 its a bit smoky now but its still goin

 

I agree, the only other engine in recent years to make such an impact has been the Duratec.

Even so, before i went down the N/A Cossie route, i looked into going for a Duratec. The cost of tuning and fitting one into an escort was just silly.

For 240BHP, i think the cost was around 8K plus VAT. Ok, that was from a reputed tuning company and i could probably got it done cheaper but even so, all that hassle and fabrication...... i rather just fit a 205 block in there and be done with it. :thumbsup:

 

I agree with u chaps, YB is king in my eyes (even tho i do love an xe!!!)

I hate to say it but an XE does make quite good sense!

:D I know what your sayin! my dad has one in a starlet too! They are just a good simple lump and very tunable!

It's gonna cost a bit more than £200 to get a zetec running 9.7 1/4's I think

 

if you re-read i said they cost similar to fit n set up but replacement zetecs are £200 if the original goes bang :wink:

 

So your tuned zetec running 9.7 goes bang, and you replace it for £200 ? :?

 

Same as if your cossie goes bang, replace it with a £200 transit lump !

 

If you think you can just buy a £200 zetec, bolt a few bits off your old 9.7sec engine and get it hitting 9.7 again, I think you'll need to think again

I can see and fully understand why people decide to go for a zetec or any other non 16v oldskool engine but imo if you want a blown engine its gotta be a cosie all day long.

When you ask someone what engine they have in their motor and they reply cosie, i think flash git, fair play :mrgreen:

I always say to people,

"have you ever been in a cossy turbo powered escort"

 

Most say no,the speed is awesome,just try it!!

Not like driving a heavy old sapphire.

 

Same for say a pinto,go out in a proper 200bhp pinto escort,you would never take it out for a zetec!!!

 

But each to there own.

 

Many years left in the cosworth.

A few years ago no one wanted a pinto!!!!!! now there in the 11s :shock:

Would i zetec my escort? Nope. They just dont sound good to me, ive heard em on carbs and throttle bodies, and the sound didnt arouse me at all :mrgreen: You lisen to a x flow or a pinto (8v and 16v) even an xe on webbers or throttle boddies and they sound like a pissed off pitbull What a growl! Go better too and i can testify to that :mrgreen:

i see your point but , theres loads of cossie's out there running 9's and under , plus i think they are over rated , a friend of mine has a 190 bhp zetec in a mk1 fiesta and i have a 160bhp xflow in mine and we both run identical times of 13.27.

 

KP's?? Thats Zetec is a BIG money build from what I understand, steel everything etc..

 

So more 'bucks' but only the same 'bang' as a Crossflow.

 

he's sold the engine and the spec list was alot of steel and fancy pistons etc

 

im going crossflow beause its a nice eay engine to understand and is well proven

 

 

 

id have the cossie over the zetec anyday,,,,,purely for that iconic rocker cover :mrgreen:

I dont think the "cossie" has had its day, not by a long shot IMO.

I think one of the great things about "our scene" is that people are so diverse in there choice of engines, keeps everything fresh and its never boring.

As long as people keep building OSF's from varying degree's of rust there will always be people who will want to fit cossie's, pinto's, xflows and zetecs as well as more modern engines.

I think we have determined that for pound for HP, the cossie wins hands down.

 

Yes, zetecs are cheap but to get the same HP from one (220) would cost a fortune therefore if you kill your 220 hp zetec, it isnt a case of just replacing it with a rear ended modeo!

and as far as i can tell "we" havent determined anythin when it comes to runnin costs, only seems to be you with the cossie blinkers on over price

 

oh and this thread wasnt to see if it was cheaper, i just wanted other peoples opinions on the cossie being at the end of its prime
