Choosing a name for my business ... help please!

Right then, some of you will know that I have been training to be a Driving Instructor since Feb last year and I have since passed the first and second parts on the road to qualification . I am shortly going to be instructing on a trainee licence and will be working under the franchise name of drivememad.com.

 

However, I still need to build my own website, think of my own company name and declare it to the dreaded tax man.

 

So ... this is where you lot come in I need some good suggestions for a driving school name for my website. Please NO old skool names because that won't be relevant for my business really ... I am aiming at attracting ALL types of learners (young, nervous, older etc) and so it can't be something that might put one or other of the types of people off .. it has to be something general but catchy.

 

Your ideas or thoughts would be very much appreciated (although I will be deleting stoopid ones ).

i can't think of a good name right now but personally i'd say avoid a 'clever' pun as they are mostly embarrassingly bad

Yes, I had thought of that too .. good advice, thanks Do you think it might make people think that I only cover that area though Should I consider the town or the county perhaps I am based in Bordon, Hampshire and covering all GU postcodes

Seriously, like Stuart said, if possible incorporate the area you will be covering (can't really help with that though as I don't know the area ), or, Mushy suggested Strive2Drive, how about 'Striving-2-B-Driving'?

I'd suggest keeping the name short and sweet, people tend to remember it better, if your trying to advertise you have more space to tell people what you do (most are pay per word) also if you want people to search or remember the website name the shorter / easier the better.

 

 

I started with a longer business name then shortened it for that reason !!!

 

I think the name to suit what you do is more important then where you are and would leave that to the sign writing and website advertising, you may also end up doing a franchise in another area or sub contract to someone else, which i do a lot of now.

Like others have said keep it relavant and easy to remember or so memorable that people will think of you when looking for driving schools

I do wish you the best luck ,sadly a good friend has been doing this for a year and just gave up ,he was working 60hr weeks just to pay for the francise and has been left with nothing to show for it .

Since xmas the work has dried up ,so hes called it a day ,his lost about 10k and is going back to BT

Sorry if this puts a downer on this thread ,but the driving school companies are complete liars and there aint loads of people wanting lessons or too few instructors ,in fact RED were on telly not long ago for promising the earth and not supplying the pupils .

Hopefully you have better luck in Hampshire ,all the best hope it goes well.

tricky one that, the whole county would be far too general but a single smallish town might be too restrictive

 

having said that drivebordon is short, easy to remember and does the job nicely.

 

when you branch out and get loads of other instructors working for you they could have say, driveliphook or driveliss as theirs

in york most learner cars are the name of the proprieter but there are others called belt up and L passo or sure pass, my mate has his own drivin school under just his name, think a lot of it goes on reputation rather than company name round our way
