Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 21, 2010 Admin Report Posted June 21, 2010 Pm sent Jo, sorry i have a great passion for these cars, maybe you can understand why now Dave ... it's not a problem, I just don't want the politics on here with regard to other stuff I know that people are entitled to their opinions but I don't think offensive comments are acceptable (I should point out here as the comments have all been removed that it was not DAVE that put up an offensive comment) Excellent work Jo Just one more comment to remove - OH and I dont mean Daves comment - lol Excellent work on Best Visiting Stand - All at Rallye Sport Escorts must try harder next year as we cant have you winning again - lol Oh, and I left that one on there deliberately (but I will now remove it seeing as you have asked ). As for the winning of best club stand, thanks for your thanks ... despite all the bollox that has gone on over the years between all of our clubs, I would like to think that it will continue to be FRIENDLY rivalry and banter ... life is too short and at the end of the day we are all here on all of the forums on the www for the same reason and with the same interest in mind Oh, and we will work hard to beat you next year

Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 21, 2010 Admin Report Posted June 21, 2010 Right, that's it ... you're banned
mk1super Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Nice car but...... Would look so much better going sideways
Jiffer Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I did catch this post before I went to work and God help anyone who tells me what I can and cant do with my cars. I do love the car and if I owned it then I might be slightly cautious when I took it out, but each to there own
over_head_cam Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I agree Jiffer Problem is that very often people on forums can't normally express an opinion without being rude or insulting. But then it's the same out there in the 'real' world too. But at least if someone slags your motor off and you're within earshot you can tell them to get fooked, and give them a dig as well If I could afford to leave a mint, standard motor hiding in the shadows and not worry about it I probably would. But only if I could have another one for bombing about in
Mr Day Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 I think the Avo show is the best of the year,Its full of original cars most in amazing condition exactly how they should be,I dont mind modified cars but how anyone can slag a bloke off for have a better than new condition rs1600 is beyond me,If i had the money i'd be buying all the butchered rarer old fords (mostly escorts) and returning them back to how they were and should be,Ive got a mk1 escort 1100 and im not gonna restore it to standard but will keep it true to what it is with suttle body mods,it really gets me when people buy a mint example of a rs2000,mexico,sport or 1300e and then bubble arch it,cage it,cossy it and basically rip it to bits, they might as well of just got a base model car and done it to that and keep the rarer cars to people who really care about there classics,If everyone keeps buyin them to turn into rally car reps and track day cars they'll be non of the originals left and they are the cars that we prob all used to see on the road which made us like them in the 1st place! If you dont like the original cars, dont go to the Avo show,go to ford fair!
Admin Vista Posted June 22, 2010 Admin Report Posted June 22, 2010 If you dont like the original cars, dont go to the Avo show,go to ford fair! I think the point is not that people don't like the original cars, more that they like to see them used and being driven. My own RS2000 definitely counts as modified. But all are period modifications, none stand out and shout that the car is modded, none have involved chopping or changing the shell and all can be returned to standard should anyone wish to. My reasons for not attending the AVO show have nothing to do with the cars.
modena green Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 first of all congrats on your award at avo the weekend.its nice to see that my car seems to have created a topic of conversation. i chatted with a fair amount of people the weekend about the car and i always say that imo all the cars no matter wot peeps chose to do with them are lovely its all about the cars.xjo is a brand new gen ford rs1600 bodyshell bought in the early 70ts and found dry stored in 2001.the origional car was rallied all its life and was battered to death.the idea was to build a new mk 1 using all gen ford parts or as close to.all the mechanicals have been rebuilt.i have collected parts for along time in case anything like this was to turn up and is true to say that if i was in it for the money i would not be fitting all the rare parts to the car theyd be on fleece bay the only part inside the car that wasent new was the centre console.one appeared on fleece bay and i just had to have it,you all know wot i mean. i dont intend as peeps have said to drive it and yes i do like trying to perfect it and get it as close to the vision inside my head last year i did the lakes tour in my mk1 2000 had a great time chasing other modded escorts ,so at every oppertunity the rs2 comes out to play with the oldest car in concorse with the rsoc and trying to defend my title car of the day for 2009 i feel i have to be on the top of my game not to let the car down and keep flying the old school flag.feel free if you see us at the shows mainly rsoc to make yourself known, user name to face to car and all that cheers kev
RETRO_AL Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 The car is stunning and it great there are some cars kept in orignal conditon like that, i dont attend the avo show anymore as i think most are all up there own arses, shutting down the forum to none members said it all to me
Noodles Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Sorry but I would never own a car like that even if i had the money, IMO
GJUK Posted June 23, 2010 Author Report Posted June 23, 2010 Sorry but I would never own a car like that even if i had the money, IMO Is the boot too small for you?
garyv6100e Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Its great to hear you have got another MK1 (lucky sod) that you use as Ford intended , your RS1600 looks amazing in the pictures It is always good to see some examples of Fords Heritage being preserved for future generations to see how much better they where back in the day rather than all the current modern rubbish out their
Jiffer Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 Sorry but I would never own a car like that even if i had the money, IMO Just out of interest mate why not? to me its a thing of beauty
Dave1800BDA Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 welcome kev, nice to see another standard BD car lol ive seen this car go sideways....reversing up on the truck....toooo much silicon on those tyres and it went a bit out of shape..lucky boy
escortmad79 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 It is indeed a minter!! Saw it at the Lakes Tour
Pipster007 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Sorry but I would never own a car like that even if i had the money, IMO Just out of interest mate why not? to me its a thing of beauty I probably couldn't own a car like it, as I would be too worried about keeping it kept in immaculete condition. I personally would want to just drive it. But I do admit that is is great if someone will keep a car it that condition as it is an historical record of how the cars were built in the 1st place
Noodles Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Sorry but I would never own a car like that even if i had the money, IMO Just out of interest mate why not? to me its a thing of beauty Many things really, too scared to leave it any were, no time to keep it spotless, rather spend the money on making it faster not cleaner. Even if I won the lottery and had a massive collection of cars they would all be used as much as possible.
rallyesport04 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 stunning car i would love to own a car like this an it would be a trailer queen as i would use another escort to run about in however in reality i could never have anything like this its too expensive to time consuming i havent a large heated garage an a bubble for it to live in an i hate cleaning cars excessivly i dont mind giving them a wash but concours is just too much effort i would rather spend my time an money getting faster stunning car good luck with the shows
l j shaw Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 The thing i ask, is how has it been kept in that condition ??? RS1600 where designed to be well used, I have one but then i have loads of paperwork to confirm race/rally entries, and most of them in there time wold have done something. Still a top car, im sure he has put alot of work into it.
Muppetboy Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm reading this with interest. So 'Modena' do you class this car as an original AVO car? Is it accepted as an orginal car within the AVO club? Is it a bit like 'Triggers Broom' I think the car looks great but sorry mate that's no '71 RS1600
modena green Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 no youre right its a 72 rs1600 there is of corse always differences of opinion,if you restored a car and replaced every panel is that still the origional car?i dont know if you looked at the car but on the slam panel it states rs1600 service shell.i have all the receipts for the new parts which were bought in the early 70ts.its not a 1300 xl converted into a 16.if you crashed your everyday road car, lets hope you dont, and the insurance company decided to re shell it,is it not the same type as pre accident.a lad local to me bought a 3 door had it 5 mins put it into a brige support.he bought a nos cozzy shell and because it was a new shell not something else b4 he was allowed to retain the origional id.at the end of the day it differances of opinion which will never change.cheers
