How is work in your area????

Is it just me or are people crying out for work more now than before???

Work is starting to dry up in alot of trades around me at the mo! and everyone i speak to is feeling sick with worry :(

in leeds its really quiet, I work doing loft insulation, theres about 10 of us doing it, everyone wants to leave cos its not a nice job. But theres nothing out there. I'd be happy in a mon-fri driving job if I can find one

Budget cuts. The department I work in is government funded & the budget has been slashed to less than is required to pay our wages let alone any design or build. Bad times.

The cut backs we have seen are just the start!!!!

I'm a cab driver in oxford and we are really busy at the moment I'm turning work away getting taxi drivers is really hard people just don't want to do the job

Seems like Oxford is the same in most trades ?

I'm the same as Mark, flat out for 2 weeks, then in my workshop playing for 2 weeks, luckily i can always find something to do !!!!

You only got to look on ebay though and everyone has the same ideas, in the last week or so i have seen some really nice cars come up for sale.

As others have said i beleive we are in for a tough ride, it seems that the new Goverment have decided that the public sector are also going to suffer this time around, so far they had escaped but they were still spending so what's going to happen when they stopped spending ?

I've been working flat out for the past 24 days solid, doing overtime as our company is pleading poverty but expanding!

the construction industry is on its arse, big time. they want to give hundreds of apprentices jobs, what good is that when there isnt the work to back it up..

im an engineer building CNC machines and work at the moment is steady, luckily our company only stopped overtime and didnt make people redundant, although the directors plead poverty to us on the shop floor when we ask for our 1st pay rise in 3 years (this is after 2 of the most profitable years in the companys time) but they are willing to take on more office staff  .

my brother has been out of work since last year and cant find another job at the moment due to him needing about 3 months off soon after an operation, he is a plater welder so cant do the job until his wrist is healed and strong, but even then there is very little work going.

i have been busy since xmas - so very good really!

its just been the last couple weeks that its gone slow, with little work,

just hope it picks up again very soon!!!

think its just a case of lowering the out goings and save money for the bad times and try and stick these hard days out!!

I have got my own car sales work to do but no savings to buy parts!!!

i have got my own garage and sell the occasional cheap car!

All i hope is british industry picks up for everyone and the future of our kids!!!

The company I work for has taken on several new members of staff over the last few months, another started yesterday.

Personally, I have work coming out of my arsehole with no end in sight, but thats not to say the company I work for are making money..

Been quiet since November, but picked up the past month, nearly back to normal now starting to give out overtime again, a big part of the work is making main frame computer cabinets for Dell and Compac that are used in shopping malls airports etc, so hopefully a bit of confidence returning to the construction industry, the other side of the business is for the railway industry, mostly for Europe, will take a year or two to happen here though I reckon, a lot of the problem is trying to compete against the Chinese who pay their guys a bowl of rice a day....

I'm a self-employed chippie (daahn saaaf ;)) and although there isn't a lot of money to be made there seems to be plenty of work to do . I do have to dabble in other trades as well too but then I say a days money is a days money, whatever you're doing
