yeah if its a frequent road car dont bother, it will skip round corners and scrubb your rear tyres.

Brother had fitted a welded english diff on his hillman hunter cosworth project. he used it as a daily and was a pain in the ass to park and move around. also it threw him onto a central strip once and ruined a rim (could have been much worse). I didn't even consider it for my project and have already bought an LSD

a wealded diff will have the exact same charastic's as a Spool diff (which are made for drag racing) . And welders / spools make the best burnouts

Get it wealded :ykt:

ive had a welded diff for a few years and yes they skip but never had the push issue as said earlier parking has never been an issue either, but saying all that if you have the money to throw at the car then get a proper lsd or locker if you aint got the money for that set up go the cheap route and weld it up

my burnouts seem to be ok.....................think i might spend 450 quid on an ATB that drops one wheel in and out half way through a donut ....................fiver for welding rods or 450 a diff that might not lock...............difficult descision :lol:

Well there's definatley mixed views on this, I've had one on my garage floor for years but never tried it, but after reading all this I'm gonna have to give it a try me thinks

had one on mine coming up to 2 years now, 2.9 capri, driven every day, (until afew weeks ago for moajor mods) yeah it skips when parking, but above 10 mph you wouldnt notice, and tryes do get eaten, but im still not sure if thats cause im addicted burnouts, or the scrubbuing in the corners  ive never had the problem of understeer tho, just scary to drive when the back steps out at 70 in the wet, but in the dry ideal, give it a try, if its not for you, get another axle for 100 or so notes, or save up for an lsd...

I had one until a few weeks ago, snapped a halfshaft and destroyed the breaing holder! :( Was great fun to drive with as even with a standard engine sideways is easy and very controlable, even more so than a friends card with an atb!

Parking and pushing is a nightmare but you live with it to be honest and I did suffer the nose pushing on in corners around the country lanes which did spoil the drive a bit. But for a bit of cheap fun try it and you'll like it but I would say go for the extra and get a propper slipper!

I don't see the problem with a welded diff but it depends on what your plans are with the car! If you have any plans of taking it round a track I wouldn't bother welding it but if you have plans of a few run what you brung's or just some sideways fun on the road then go for it if you can't afford an LSD!

Half the LSD's out there may aswell be a welded diffs anyways which have been set-up for circuit use or rallying with as much as 90lbs of preload!

Don't bother with an ATB in my opinion!
