Slik 50 Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 About 2 months before christmas the 2.8 started to run n five cylinders. Now one of the mechanics that comes into the shop says that I may have burnt a valve. So I asked if he could fit it in and I would have my heads done. He brings it back saying the tappets were tight obn one of the valves thats why it wasnt firing on that cylinder. Cool I thought, I dont have to spend a fourtune on the heads! Two weeks after that It started to fire on five again so I he adjusted the tappes again and all was fine. One week later the head gasket went and pressurised that much it blew the top hose. He came with his recovery truck and took it away. I told him that because I needed the car everyday for work, To get it sorted no matter what. So he took the heads off sent them away to get (apparently) skimed, tested, new valve seats a couple new valves new guides ect and the seats converted to unleaded! on top of that was a full new Payen headset. £450 later the car was back, running like a good un I was over the moon the tappets where very noisy but he said do about 500 miles then he will sort them out. 500 miles later it started running on five again. Now needless to say I was realy p*ssed off so it went in. Had the tappets adjusted,(again) A wheel bearing replaced tappets reset and a service. That was last thursday and when I got her back she was running like a dream. I have never bee happyer with the car. Then last night when I got home it was idling irraticly it wouldnt hold the revs firing back on five and basically running like a bag of sh*t. So again he is ment to be taking it back in today to find out what the problem is. I am fast loosing my patience. Sorry to whinge but I just gotta
capriclive Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 hope you finally get it sorted m8. pain in the a**e when things dont go right.
4parajon Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 I feel for ya mate. Sometimes it just seems like one thing after another, might be worth seeking advice from a V6 expert, especially if its the same problem keep coming back. Good luck with it mate
Johnson Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 as 4parajon said, i think you should try someone in the know with v6's. good luk sorting it tho.
Admin Vista Posted January 16, 2007 Admin Report Posted January 16, 2007 Sorry to hear that mate. I've never heard of repeated problems like that without an obvious cause before and I'd be getting pissed at all the expense if the fault kept coming back too.
Slik 50 Posted January 16, 2007 Author Report Posted January 16, 2007 It seems that its the sam tappet that keeps tightning so he thinks that the rocker shaft is knackerd or somthing. The thing is that about ten years ago the engine that is fitted in mine was fully rebuilt by him as he had a mint 4I. He is higly regarded as a top michanic around here that dosnt f*ck around. He has had loads of old fords and seems to know loads of crap about them.I have no idea so its easyer to pay someone than to screw it up me self. But its just fustrating. He has managed to find some good rockershafts amongst his old stuff. He has picked it up now so hopfully It will be back this afternoon. Running sweat again (looks for a piece of wood to touch )
Doc Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Sympathy ther mate but if you keep at it it iwll come right
DeuceCoupe Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 hope everything will be ok fingers crossed
Pipster007 Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 After that amount of re-tuning, I'd think about taking it elsewhere. I had my engine rebuilt at the "Car Clinic" in Darwen, sth of Blackburn. Thats up your way. 01254 775 845 I've not had any probs with it at all
4parajon Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Slik 50 I did'nt realise you are in the north west!!, if you are you want to talk to Ric Wood in Stockport as he is the man when it comes to V6's, his number is 0161 483 4810.
V8ian Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Sounds Like it may be a pushrod adjuster not locking, or the cam is shagged.
Slik 50 Posted January 16, 2007 Author Report Posted January 16, 2007 cheers guys I should get it back tonight (fingers crossed). Then we will see what happens in the future. As to wether I keep using him. Stockport is a little far away as I need the car for work everyday. Blackburn pip? What are you doing in blackburn I thought that would be a little far away for you but I will deffo keep there number to hand thanks And Jon mate I live in sunny morecambe but work in rainy Preston Lets just hope its right this time
Pipster007 Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Blackburn pip? What are you doing in blackburn I thought that would be a little far away for you but I will deffo keep there number to hand thanks I was getting rediculous estimates from all the usual engine builders down here. So I thought I'd try them because Classic Ford Mag had their Project Injector there for an engine rebuild. So I figured, why not ring them and lo and behold, they were £2K cheaper than anyone down here. So off to Blackburn I went. I'm very happy with their work. But now, I've got Colin Ashton to sort out any probs from now on and he's a bit more local
Slik 50 Posted January 16, 2007 Author Report Posted January 16, 2007 Colin is mobile isnt he Cheers anyway pip I will defanatly keep ther no. to hand mate
Pipster007 Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Colin is mobile isnt he He is mobile, but I'm not sure if he'd drive from Surrey to Morecambe though. Not unless you treat him to a Beano weekend in Blackpool
jayson2.3pinto Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 if you are getting this same problem try checking cam lobes and cam followers if the head has been sorted ok ,would say it was this
Col-ashtonmobile Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 m8 they tend to suffer with oil ways problems around that area , pushrods , rockers , followers , get starved of oil , adjusting the tappets all the time wont cure it you really need to give it a good couple of flush out,s then get some really good oil in there hope this helps
Slik 50 Posted January 16, 2007 Author Report Posted January 16, 2007 O.K. Thanks guys Just got the car back and he says that he thinks its a problem with the cam. possably the lobes / followers so seeing jayson and col's post I am pretty chuffed with the outcome and that he isnt just trying to fob me of with sh*te! But to top it of my wipers stoped working ont the way home aswell and it was raining So I was hanging out the window clearing the screen manualy On the brightside I have tomorrow off to go offroading for me birthday
