petrolhead Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 This is not Old Skool but it has a blue oval! I have a colleague at work who is a bit 'unconventional'. He used to build racing mini's and he's a technophobe. He refuses to own a phone and doesn't even have an email address. He is in fact a 'mad professor' when it comes to cars Luckily his son is a normal person and has taken some pics of the performance car he is effectively building for free: MK4 Fiesta (massive MOT failure)- donated free Written off and rotten Alfa 3.0 v6 - £137 (interior and alloys sold for a profit). It had 'engine problems' that the mad professor quickly and correctly diagnosed as fuel pump problems. He's pulled the arches out to get an extra 4" width and it is going to be slammed with different wheels but still look like a tatty fiesta. Its running the 5 speed transaxle and alfa suspension. He does his own cages and once it is running and he's sorted out any niggles he plans to supercharge it. His son also works for a well-established racing company so its got some aquired carbon bucket seats going in too! Don't ask why? The answer is why not. Sweet Matt
Nick Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 uhhhh yeah that should go pretty well tbh different from the usually 17's and big arse exhausts :L
Ghia15 Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Looks cool. gona upset some of the bigger more expensive cars out there.
accord83 Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 That's what has made the Great in Great Britain, a man, in a shed, with a dream, and a fag packet to draw it on. Then building it just because he can. I doff my metaphorical hat to your mad professor. Excellent.
Andy44Boz Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Cool project, I just wish i was that brave to try something like that
Skoty Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 thats seriously cool! and this guy sounds like a genius.
petrolhead Posted February 16, 2012 Author Report Posted February 16, 2012 He's informed me that he has only pulled the rear arches out 1.5" each side. He also told me last week he wouldn't do anymore until it is warmer because it is all done on his drive. Judging from the latest pics sent by his son clearly the mad professor has an addiction to automotive work. A bit of metal work will sort the tell tale gap but a couple of inches to gain a couple of litres sounds like a fair trade to me!
petrolhead Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 I popped round the other day with a proper camera to see how he's getting on. The progress is impressive, he thinks it is a few months away from completion. He's moved the entire running gear back which gets rid of the gap between the front wing. This moves the rear wheels about 3 inches back but he's going to do some careful body work to hide this. He's making the front end bolt on for ease of maintenance as its a big engine in a small car He just happens to have some 13" F1 wets hanging around but these have another destiny. THe upside down space frame was going to be a V6 mid engined Mk3 grass track Escort, but he has other plans for it now: The car still effectively owes him nothing, in fact he's made money from building it!
Fiesta Steve Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Cool project this is, keep us updated with progress Matt
