government vs drivers

hey all, just been reading about the petition against the governments proposals for charging motorists per mile and tracking their every move. Its amazing how they think that they can keep charging the general public more and more for using their cars. How do they expect people to get to work or run buisness's, nevermind having a bit of freedom. I was thinking it would be good to get a load of classic car clubs/groups etc to all drive into the centre of London on a given day and bring it to a standstill for an hour or two. I reckon if enough people spread the word on forums and magazines got involved then there would be quite a good turnout and the media would get nice pictures for the news etc. I dunno im just annoyed with the idiots in charge of this country sorry for ranting.

good idea but u wont get enough ppl together to make a difference, plus the govt dont give a t0ss about ppl like u and me anyway. Do you remember the fuel demonstration last year when prices cracked a quid a litre? no, nor do I as only a handful of ppl could be bothered to protest against it, how about the anti-hunting loby? didnt get them far did it. Even the "petrol crisis" of about 2001 (?) was caused by only about 200 ppl. To be honest i think ppl in this country (esp the motorist) give a t0ss anymore as everyone knows the govt of the day will do what they want irrespective of the ppl it affects and all we can do is put our hands in our pockets (or run red diesel )

they tax the motorist like mad because they can, most people dont live in big city, or if they do still *need* a car to do the basic things in life, getting to work, doing ood shopping whatever

 

we dont have a choice to use our cars, i certainly dont living in the sticks so the government can charge us what they like and know we cant do sh!t about it.

 

All the parties see the global warming etc as the best excuse ever to tax us and curb our freedoms even more so u cant vote against it

Every day I drive 40 miles to work which should take (according to satnav) 46 minutes. Every day I crawl along the M2/M20/M25 for 2 hours! Fair enough it's usually down to an accident, but for fooks sake it's EVERY fookin day! One little accident brings the fookin roads to a crawl for ages. I lived in Germany for 5 years and drove at 175 mph quite often and I can honestly say I think I may have sat in 2 traffic jams. This country and especially the fookin nobhead running it is shit!

I think you're right. It's the English way to just sit back and whinge without actually doing anything. If we were French we'd have blockaded the ports and burnt a few sheep by now!

 

This does seem to be a subject that every motorist is talking about now though, and a few of us were having a chat about it at the weekend. We decided that what we need to do is drive onto the M25 in the morning rush-hour one day and park. That will f*ck up the whole of the South of England & London. It needs to be done in a very organised way though - the press, TV, Radio etc ALL need to have prior knowledge.

 

Then we just sit there blocking all 3/4/5 lanes until some Government face goes on record to say that they will reduce tax on fuel, speed cameras etc etc, and then the protestors promise to do exactly the same every week until the government makes good on its pledge.

my 40 mile journey takes 40 mins when quiet or 1.5 hrs on a good day when i leave at 0630. the jams are not caused by excessive traffic but by the incompitent motorists who cant use roundabouts, motorway lanes, traffic lights etc. traffic flow is proportinal to the number of cars per mile per hour, so ppl who drive too slow and too far from the vehicle in front are wasting space and clogging the roads up. The only way to improve it is tax motorists off the road, or train ppl to drive in a propper considerate way. One costs the govt and one fills their coffers so guess which they have chosen.

 

What makes me laugh is that if the govt were really serious about cutting polution they would make an effort to minimise the traffic jams as even the most fuel efficient car in the world does 0 to the gallon in a traffic jam.
