Jiffer Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 Scene is going strong as far as I'm concerned, it's just forums that are suffering due to the influence of Face-ache (in my opinion anyway) totally agree, never see many pics going up on the site they all go on f book even osfdc, I never been on it and doubt I ever will. 1

Think this is more of the problem people don't trust to show off their cars anymore unless your in the "club" I can see why and doing security product know why think it just seems a shame and from the outside probably does make the scene look quiet ?
seaneylad Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Im getting into the old school ford scene after owning some modern ford's im only 22 and between me and my dad were going for an old escort as he loves them from his old driving days my current focus st's for sale
MK2Ed Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 People come and go, they start young families and personal circumstances change but nostalgia never dies - I'm a petrol head and own a couple of marques but would always miss my Escort..............
MK2Ed Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 totally agree, never see many pics going up on the site they all go on f book even osfdc, I never been on it and doubt I ever will. Interesting, f-book is very easy to post pics but direct on a forum can be time consuming, be better if it were 1 click via My Pictures but I don't know how easy this would be.
iandq Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 reading these posts about pictures, something else dawned on me, we must all have pictures of our younger days in albums, or in envelopes in the loft etc, but these days everything is digital images and mostly on phones, no body prints photos any more. how many people in twenty years time are going to be able to look back at photos of today? when images of the past have gone, so will the romance and nostalgia of it all i guess.... ian.
Muppetsmuppet Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 i think the scene is getting a bit closed doors , like with classic bikes . Many cars not used much and hoarded away because 'they know what there worth ' Only to appear at sky high prices on fleabay when the first bit of bubbling comes up through the paint . Also parts getting very expensive . The grey haired lot have a strangle hold on cars forcing the prices - and many younger people out . I would love a mk1 escort but only ever see stripped dodgy no id shells , which im not going to know whats missing if i try to put it back together , or over priced complte cars which are going to be full of filler . It doesnt help that younger people might not have a place to work or store a car , many people having allocated parking only etc compared to older home owners .
JAY PS Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Scene has deffo changed since 06 , for me it's about life balance and shows are a luxury now, I am aware of so many cars now tucked up because of costs and many who have had to sell up. With fuel costs and cost of living rising this is only going to get worse.Personally I think prices have peeked now. Sure the odd car makes the dosh but there's a lot if rubbish being passed off at tall money

Sure the odd car makes the dosh but there's a lot if rubbish being passed off at tall money Thats kind of more what i mean , i didnt mean to sound so bad , genrally get fed up with rubbish being offered for big money . Its the same with anything though , if one person thinks they can get £500 for something , the next greedy so and so will think ' well im going to ask for £575' and it just goes on and on . I mean youve only got to look on fleabay , red 2 door mk1 shell £3500 , another one £6000!!!! It seems theres no middle ground as projects get bought or offered to those in the know already and the only cars that circulate are all tarted up big buck jobs .
Admin Vista Posted September 20, 2013 Admin Report Posted September 20, 2013 Interesting, f-book is very easy to post pics but direct on a forum can be time consuming, be better if it were 1 click via My Pictures but I don't know how easy this would be. Uploading pics to here is pretty straightforward, it's certainly no more complex than uploading them to photobucket. I don't participate in the FB OSF room but I do have access to it and often wonder why people choose to post all their pictures up there rather than here
jas Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 People are hiding there cars away dont blame them costs like parts have gone mad but u can still find cheap parts every now and then so no i would say its still going strong, stay off ebay.

I don't participate in the FB OSF room but I do have access to it and often wonder why people choose to post all their pictures up there rather than here Other sites such as buysellcortina have a much quicker way of uploading pics.Just browse pics on your pc etc and click on them ,done.Would it be possible to have a similar system on here ?
2litreScapri Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 I don't think the old Ford scene has finished, I echo many people's thoughts about life getting in the way (Sierra P100 project has been sitting on my driveway for 8 years) & it seems more younger guys have got into the scene. The Surrey Capri Club has seen an increase of new members come in with Capris, mostly between 20 & 25. And the amount of people that turned up to the Greyhound meet the other night despite being dark as hell shows there is enough respect out there. My Capri has just had an engine rebuild &'ve been itching to drive it. Had it back 2 weeks & clocked up 750 miles random driving running in. Park up places & people come have a chat about the Capri. Not gonna stop using it as the daily. My biggest bugbear is with people who spend thousands getting a car restored & then don't drive it. Get the fook out & drive it YKT! And if you can't sell it to someone who will. 1
daveaphillips Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 I'm no expert, but it seems to be doing just fine in Essex! Most of the guys drive their cars all year round, and every month at the Eagle meet there are more people and cars turning up. Considering the rules state that the car has to be in production in 1980 or earlier, I think things are going pretty well! I don't remember seeing an Old Skool Fiat or Old Skool Vauxhall club around - I think Fords are doing better than most! Dave 1
gwtaylor22 Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 Since getting my mk2 my mate has thought about getting into the scene until he noticed the price of things for them so he's sticking with VW for now he said
zeds Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 The scene is by no means dead but its certainly not as accessible as it once was
crapichris Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 I put my Capri back on the road this year after 3 years out of the scene. I got fed up with the shows and the attitude of certain classic car owners. Having attended a few shows this year I can report nothing has changed . For a while I thought about quitting and having posted a couple of topics about this your responses has strengthened my resolve to continue - s*d 'em all, I will continue as I enjoy getting out there and terrorising the general public! Me - I am 56, grey haired professional, just got rid of the kids with a bit of spare cash. However I agree it ain't a cheap hobby any more and I have to compromise to keep my car running (home respray, keep it off the road over winter, etc). God only knows how some of you youngsters cope. What I would say is that in the Luton area there ain't any meets any more. I used to run the local capri club but now it seems to be just me. Think we need to get our own socials going to keep this scene going because the general classic car scene seems to be imploding and I don't want the OSF scene to follow suit.
Admin Vista Posted September 22, 2013 Admin Report Posted September 22, 2013 I just got rid of the kids with a bit of spare cash. Interesting, how much did you get for them? I might have to see if there are any takers for mine
SmokeEm Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I got back into it again this year although I kept my hand in over the last few years. I'm just happy to cruise the streets in something different. The looks and stares make the financial drain worthwhile to me 1
deltamal Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 The Ford scene is very quiet in this end of the country, guess it's due to a general lack of funds to keep going what what is for most is a leisure activity, hopefully the economy will improve next year and revive things, just got to hope that everyone's enthusiasm revives as well!
mexicansteve Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 The Ford scene is very quiet in this end of the country, guess it's due to a general lack of funds to keep going what what is for most is a leisure activity, hopefully the economy will improve next year and revive things, just got to hope that everyone's enthusiasm revives as well! It is quiet down here, I just want to go for drives and don't seem to find any takers. However my capri is a family heirloom that I drive all year round, I love being stopped by inquisitive people asking about it. On another note I recently discovered, not 20 metres from my back door, a young chap in a small garage rebuilding a late mk3 capri, so I guess there's stuff everywhere, it's just hidden away.
MK2Ed Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 I think these things also run in cycles, the scene was massive in the early-mid 80's and then died a death and many cars entered banger territory. Come the late nineties, early 2000 it exploded again to what we have today - irrespective the Ford scene continues to be one of the biggest and second or = only to the VW scene.
jas Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 I still see the odd mk1 escort going around plymouth, did have a chat with a guy who was in a blue 4 door mk2 the other week as well it is a shame u have to hide these cars away and how a young lad is able to buy a old ford and keep it going i just dont no.
