Excellent....

Good to see the passion for the mk1, although tearing off the spot lamps using rope and a tree is a bit strong  :( :(

Mine are staying on now  :)

There are quite a few negative posts on twitter

There are some very positive quotes on twitter as well, #fortheloveofcars.... I really enjoyed the program. Some exaggerated bits but overall it was great to see a good car program.

I take it the top lot of cars in that Coys link are the other cars from the series, in which case....how freakin much???!?!?!?!

I enjoyed it anyways, especially the look on that chaps face as his rally escort was driven really badly by the host!

Lol, he was really struggling to drive that!

I think the other cars are on that link... Crazy prices!

I really did enjoy this program and it got me looking at Mk1 RS's again...  I now know that I will never be able to afford one!

As an aside did anyone notice that the geezer who sold the Mexico had a Dolomite Sprint outside his lock-up?!  He like his sporty saloon cars (or liked to have knackered ones lying about)...

Great program, will be tuning in again next week...

Was decent, made me laugh when he said it would be a £500 pound car if it wasn't a Mexico when he brought the shell, can anyone tell me where you can get a mk1 2dr in any condition for £500! Ha ha. Why do they always make up numbers on these shows?

Also why was the greyhound meet made out to be some secret illegal meet up?

Funny how he said that mk1 rally car was the fastest thing he'd ever drove, does make you wonder why he's presenting a TV show on cars if that's the case.

Overall it was good though, better than 99% of the car programmes on TV.

Because if he told the truth it would sound stupid.

£5K for a scrapper

£10K for a scrapper Mex.

He's presenting as he was in a show that had a Tincorna in it innit.

I thought it was a good way to while away an hour. Good balance of stuff and in particular I enjoyed the old adverts and the like.

Nice looking car, but did anybody else notice the pin stripe along the side didn't quite line up where it moved from the door to the rear 3/4 panel? Would have annoyed me :)

I liked it and it was well finished but obviously the person editing the film had a lot to answer for - starting a fresh engine without hooking up the rad hoses? And if that's the S London look - I like it! Remember going to Wimbledon Stadium for the Hot Rods with fields full of Escorts and i've always liked the look!

Question - Should the Mk1 Mexico have a 1600 GT badge on the wing as on the show.......I thought it was a 'Mexico' badge?

And did they always have a roof stripe - don't remember that although a lot of the Harris posse cars seemed to have it?

I managed to find a way to view it here in Australia. I enjoyed it, although they did push the boy racer thing a bit too much I think. They seemed to imply that the Mexico was the Mk1 Escort too have and that it started the whole revolution? I thought Twincams put the Mk1 on the map with the RS1600 evolving things further and with the RS2000 later bringing refinement and more effortless sports motoring. The Kent engine Mexicos added a reliability and easy fix factor that the Twincams and RS1600s lacked and a great idea and model its its own right but the show made out that the Mexico was the premier Escort Mk1 model?

From an Australian perspective we simply never got this model not even named something else. We had the Twincam as the premier sports model and then the rest of our Mk1s were pretty much mostly 1300s with the 1300GT being the next sports model down from the Twincam. Maybe there was a Mk1 Mexico culture in the UK that eclipsed the Twincam/RS1600 that we didnt get to see since it wasnt a model available here?

The Wing badges would say 1600GT if it had the full Mexico stripe package from new, and Mexico if it didn't.

The roof stripes were part of the stripe kit and if the car in question had the side Mexico stripes, it would also have the roof stripes. Though it could also be specified with just a pin stripe or even no stripes at all.

I enjoyed the program on the whole but I agree re over emphasis of the boy racer & burnouts theme. The Classic Ford scene in general has grown way beyond that stereotype and its a shame to see it portrayed on TV like that as the casual viewer will not see beyond it.

As to your other question, the Twin Cam and RS1600 were certainly the models that put the car on the Motorsport map but it was the Mexico that captured the public eye in the UK as it was much more affordable and not so highly strung as its predecessors. It wasn't till the RS2000 came along that there was an affordable Escort that offered higher performance.
