Engine & box with ECU will set you back the best part of £1500, you won't know what condition it's in.

Saphs can be picked up for as little as £2500 but may've been ragged to hell or rotten as a pear & may need a rebuild.

If you find a decent enough one cheaply enough then you can break it, sell the other bits on & get some of the money back

Other option is to try & find one that's had a rear or side impact crash

Buy the Sapphire and then sell me the shell..... :D

But if you buy a ragged saph and the engine is hiding something You would be looking at a rebuild anyway. So in the long run I would say buy a a rebuilt engine as you know what you are getting

Thats what i was gonna say !!!

Especially if you buy a fooked undriveable shell, you wont be able to put the motor under load. if it turns out it needs a rebuild/ freshen up, whats that 1k+.....

Or there is always the option of a 2.9 turbo technics sierra because they are even cheaper ?

I really dont want to make a mistake when buying the next engine....

Buy the car .... strip it of its engine loom etc and gearbox... then send the engine to be rebuilt .. Clints the cheapest and the best I know for that.. he loves the engines not the money, and hes more about usable power rather than penis extensions pub talk figures.

Sell the shell and all the other bits on ebay and you may find that you have just payed for a rebuild.. not an outright buy.

Its the best option, done countless times by my customers and others
