SmokeEm Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Any one else think the same way??? Was browsing the Bay of E earlier when I spotted an Ad for a Mk2 Granny. Thought I'd have a looksie (Like you do.. Stand down people!) Anyway, advert basically says "Nice car, is what it is, come take a look as viewing is better than my description" WTF? So let me get this straight, you want to sell your car but you cannot be bothered to write an honest description of it?? If you cannot be bothered to write a description, what chance have I of you giving a good honest descroption on the phone? What is it these days? Why would I bother driving 20/50/100 miles or whatever when the seller cannot be bothered! RANT OVER
dalmarshall Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I think it means the car is a load of crap and there's not a couple of decent things to be said about it!!! He'd rather get someone there and try to haggle or hope they don't see how bad it is!!
SmokeEm Posted August 7, 2015 Author Report Posted August 7, 2015 My thoughts exactly. Wasn't exactly cheap either!
irishtorag Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 not really I sold my ecort to first caller with a very simple add no tyre kickers or messer type thing and bare basic ie 4 year resto nice car. if someone is interested its some times better to let them decide if car is worth buying all I wanna see is a price and fone number I wouldn't look at a car with no price just my opinion as too many people think they have minty fresh cars but mint to them and me are away of the mark
SmokeEm Posted August 7, 2015 Author Report Posted August 7, 2015 I hear you but this advert doesn't even have basic info. It's a buyers market out there, you have to make an effort IMHO
mk2 mike Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I'm very fussy about ads. If there's no details I move along regardless how nice the car looks. Likewise if the ad is full of spelling mistakes I'll just keep looking. 3
colr6 Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Mike, can't understand why spelling mistakes would make a bad car to buy?
matt 74 Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Spelling mistakes not a spelling mistake nearly always spell big King scam !!! Or spam or my uncle who is a prince from africa 1
The Transplanter Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I agree, if you want to sell something, good bad or ugly, describe what you are selling! Like what's been said before, a lack of description is hiding something and gives the impression of dishonesty, even the worst cars have something worth describing. And I don't think mike was referring to actual spelling mistakes, as we all do it! I think its more to do with grammar (Neanderthal Alert). I have been in the motor industry for over 30 years, and the days of minimalistic "call me for more details" adverts are a thing of the past. people demand more from an ad or will buy elsewhere. Simples! 1
khanlad Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 I prefer a fuller description, and i know spelling mistakes dont make a car bad, and sometimes you can mis type things, but some spelling is outrageous, if you cant be bothered to check if you're not sure and correct it what does that say about the car or anything else you may be selling?
mk2 mike Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Nope. I'm on about general spelling. One of my pet hates. No excuse for poor spelling in the modern age of predictive text and spell checkers. I know it doesn't necessarily reflect on the quality of the car but personally I'd give up reading an ad riddled with mistakes and move on. Just one of my many quirks. 1
mk2 mike Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Plus in my experience if someone is too lazy to take 30mins putting an advert together chances are they're too lazy to look after the car. Another reason to give the car a miss imo.
irishtorag Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 as said before I disagree as in the last year ive sold three cars with no info but the basic with a price and quality pics. All cars sold to first caller and all full price got ,infact when my escort sold the lad travelled an eight hour round trip never took for spin and paid 2k deposit there and then.. there were a lot of other cheaper cars with full description for sale and cheaper ,closer to him but chose the no nonsense add as he said if you put too much emphasis on what car contains to make it good then maybe you hide real issues like bad work on actual car That was his take on it anyway. Me I drove 5 hours to buy the 4door with a 3 picture minimal word add because the pictures were quality and spoke louder than words just my opinion lads and lasses 1
HotRodMatt Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Nope. I'm on about general spelling. One of my pet hates. I'm the same with spelling, Mike. Also grammar. I really annoy the wife by correcting her mid sentence. And she's the one with the English degree! 2
colr6 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 If it's a car you want who cares what the spelling or description is, if the price is right! Some people get carried away with descriptions bit like estate agents. I would rather go with basic description, make your own mind up wether to buy or not. Then read someones idea of all singing and dancing car and get there with high hopes and its a pile of crap! IMO 1
mk2 mike Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 Can't dissaggrreee with you Moke Get out.
mk2 mike Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 If it's a car you want who cares what the spelling or description is, if the price is right!I do. Another thing that grips my poo poo is people selling their car, but are too lazy to think of a price so they say 'offers' or 'just testing the water', then get all arsey when people offer less than they want! They know exactly what price they'll part with the car for but keep shtum just in case someone offers them more than they want. I'd love it if these people went to do their weekly shop in Tesco and after ringing it up the checkout girl said 'make me an offer'. They'd soon get the hump. 3
accord83 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 My annoyance is pictures of the interior taken from outside, through the glass. I always think, "Is it your car? Then why haven't you used the key to open the bloody door!" It is guaranteed to make me move on.
PeteRS8084 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 When I have sold on flea bay I write full on war and peace, I tell everything warts and all, and I tell them about collection, deposit and collection. If they can't for fill the criteria don't bid! And with doing warts and all I have never had anyone turn up and say "I did not realise that a 10 year old car would have the odd blemish"! I also take really good pictures, high quality in a good setting. I hate it when people have pictures upside down or on the side. Flea bay allow you to rotate pictures when your loading them. And also people who load the smallest pictures without the option of up sizing them! Rant over! Oh and another thing...........people who put make an offer option, then never respond to the offer in 48 hrs - why bother if your not going to respond! Oh oh and people who bid and then retract the bid 2 days later with the excuse "I entered the wrong amount".........impossible because you get asked to confirm the amount twice............half the time it because they have just got back from the pub, or they want to see what the reserve is! Oh oh oh............no that's enough
HotRodMatt Posted August 9, 2015 Report Posted August 9, 2015 There's a car down the road from me with this in the window: "For sale. Good runner. 07xxxxxxxxx" Surely at least put the price on it!! 2
PeteRS8084 Posted August 11, 2015 Report Posted August 11, 2015 Smokem, Just seen your ad for the p 100 on turbosport...... Now that's what I can an advert! Good on ya.............nothing left to the imagination. Good luck fingers crossed for a v8! I should have a bucket list, mind I do have a v8 (sensible if that's possible) car. 1
SmokeEm Posted August 11, 2015 Author Report Posted August 11, 2015 Who me? Err Yes. Err No... Errm I'm just testing the water Fact is Mike, as I've said before, I don't get attached. I build, I source, I finance etc etc. BUT, it is always for sale. I have so many things I hanker after and only ONE life.. If it sells, great, someone gets an absolute bargain, if it doesn't, I can live with it happily until it does. 4
mk2 mike Posted August 11, 2015 Report Posted August 11, 2015 Fair play. As said, great advert. GLWTS
