Classic Ford 2016 or not so Classic any more

Cars of the 90s

MK3 fiesta

MK5 Escort / Orion

MK1 Mondeo

Sierra

Granada

Yes they all have plastic bumpers but most of them now are owned by enthusiasts you don't see many of them on the roads anymore,

The cosworth range were great cars! And things like the mk1 mondeo (although not my cup of tea) 2.0 zetec's are being used in rwd old skool fords, along with newer ford engines ( we like this idea don't we)

I have no problem in seeing 80s and 90s fords, I don't like some of the tastes don't get me wrong but that's the same with any age car.

I do think if it was laid out correct it could be a good show (old and up to 96)

A lot of folk used to have mk1 escorts etc in their youth and now they are re-living their youth with their pride and joys

Time goes on and we are all getting older, Surely it's history repeating itself maybe the classic scene we seem to be in is getting vintage!

My youth was  mk1 fiesta's and it will be the fiesta's 40th year of production next year! So there may be a great turn out at classic ford.

I will add i think classic should however be 25 years and older.

Controlled correctly i can't see a problem and if my local shopping car park was full of cossies and rs turbos etc id be happy to go and have a nose, Most of us were and still are boy racers aren't we.

To sum up people don't like change and the next generation will be the same.

Not trying to upset folk....

Yes sorry I did not no the ka come out in 96,

But people  don't have to look at the cars that are not  there cup of tea???

I think a lot of the youth would love old skool fords however the price of them is to dear and we all have to start somewhere,

I can see both points of view and I can see why classic ford are trying to open the doors up a bit.

Maybe they should of  not gone to 1996 and had pre 90 as a first step.

I personally think a lot of people think if its not rwd its not old skool or a classic

1/4 of a mile would be fun surely???

P.s im not a fan of newer cars myself  I do like pre 90s though and as we get older there will be what people say plastic bumper models becoming classic cars!

Like I said before just have plastic one side pre plastic other side it's the people's choice then and it's the people who pay to get in and make these shows viable for the organisers not us who have tunnel vision of what's right and what's wrong. Then everybody's happy as long as the numbers are not cut down to accommodate the later years

As long as it's well seperated not a problem I personally would have a large gap 10/15 miles but that's just me as much as I hate the later stuff if it keeps the show going it's not all bad and ford fair this year was great the Ford Focus stand was a complete and utter waste of time but as long as they separate it properly it might be ok and the magazines are in a rock and hard place there are only so many classics out there

Yes! None of this please..

On the subject, pre-96 isn't all bad, Escort Cosworth and RS500 Sierra for example, and I have a weird soft spot for the Mk3 Fiesta... Also Mondeos, unbelievably, can be cool**.. ;)

** I don't mean proper old Ford levels of cool, I just mean cool for a Mondeo! It's a 180mph cossie turbo powered sleeper, better than a lot of the late 80s/90s junk that may appear ;)

Yes but with modern cars its only the engines that have any use, the plastic belongs in the bin

Its the same in the VW world. The Audi TT makes an excellent donor car, but no enthusiast has the desire to own one!

And to a degree the Sierra Cosworth was the same some time back! Which is my point, in time the Mondeo will reach Retro / Classic / Old Skool status like it or not, that time is just not now!

Not one little bit interested in Chavtastic Mundanes, its fantastic its made from plastic Fiesta dull appliance type KAs

It's a shame that Classic Ford are start to introduce dull junk FWD car more into its magazine, why don't they just drop the name classic rename it "CHAVS FORDS" magazine and offer a free Burberry baseball caps & stick CHAVTASTIC decals, baseball bats for those that subscribe 6 months to the Yuppie editor that's more interested making money than he is over preserving Classic Fords status of the magazine l that use to love and buy every month. Just see it now list of club meeting sites will wiped out by a list of McDonald sites with meetings every last Friday of the month to take on the Citroen Saxo & Peugeot 106 other FWD crapbox appliances.

I hope somebody makes an App a bit Flight Radar a CHAV locater app that lets you know when there is a large gathering of CHAVMOBILES in an area like CHAVIE FORDS magazine once year bash somewhere near Santa Pod in a Chavtatic Walmart car park, so l can make sure that l am not within 100 miles of the event, preferably give me enough warning so l can be in Australia on holiday for a month.

Just for the record l don't mind Fords RWD that carries all the punch like Sierra, Escort Cossie, even the new Focus AWD they are what l would call classics, the rest of the FWD only junk will be totally worthless not worth preserving, about interesting as collecting a duff microwave ovens.

If CHAVMOBILES take over Classic Ford events, l think l will just end up selling my two bog standard Classic Fords that l have preserved for the last 16 years, let some reader of Classic CHAVs Ford magazine have them and destroy them smash them within a couple of years with some hideous mods you find in the magazine, with the proceeds l will buy a nice Classic v8 Stang and subscribe to 5.0L Mustang magazine or by a nice Classic GT40 when they come out. Its a shame Classic CHAV Fords magazine never went down the same route as TR, MG & Jaguar magazines had great reverence for bog standard models that were held in high esteem, went down the ENGINNER new bog standard parts rather than a million types of simpleton BOLT-ON rubbish you end up paying a fortune for only to find the company has gone bust you can no longer get those brake pads that only fit the specialised caliper , or that bit of the original part of structure you butchered ruined welding torch is rendered total useless when you need a replacement part as the mild to wild third party company went bust. It's not hard to see TR, MG & Jaguar club magazine still have a huge following membership that still subscribe to their magazines they went down the ENGINEER original parts keep them original route and Classic CHAV Fords magazine went down the make them look hideous destroy them with a welding torch a stupid third party mild to wild bold-on route, now they are left with no substance or readership for their magazine, so they want to change it CHAVs Monthly magazine suprise suprise.

Right then, As what we call classic Ford of which we all own on this site (pre plastic) to put a relevance to today's Chavs as we call them they are only doing to the cars they have available to them like we did in our youth, be it fiestas/ focus and so on let's be honest how many of today's 18/25 year olds can even afford to buy a CLASSIC Ford let alone insure the bloody thing! If you don't like the way the supposed CLASSIC Ford mag is going don't buy it. With reference to what is a CLASSIC Ford can it be a modified one or has it to be as come from the factory one your talking about two totally different types of car and two different types of owner. I totally agree with a lot of views which Motown has put forward but like has been said before we would like a show of pre plastic to continue and not be flooded with the later models. The owners of these mags are in it for the money that's business. There not interested in mid life joe blogs whose spent twenty years of his life restoring a classic there looking at the bigger readership the as we call them the CHAVs it all boils down to money making. Would like to cover more views expressed but seeing as I am. One fingered typer will leave there!

Hi, I have only just joined this forum of which I have visited many times.

I have been following this thread, which has made me laugh a few times.

I know that the car I drive is not considered as old skool status as of yet. But I am glad to see that some of the members do recognise the fact that some of the 80s and 90s cars are becoming sought after these days.

I respect that everyone has an opinion of which cars they like, whether it be a standard or modified in either old skool or a modern classic.

I am not biased as to a specific type of Ford that I like, however I would not label people who have a great car that they are obviously proud of owning if it was not my cup of tea!

I certainly would certainly not use some of the terms to describe the owners of such cars like the one I own.

However these people see it, cars labeled as ' plastic cars ' are starting to get classic status.

This does not put them as ' old skool ' but we are viewing our opinions on ' classic ford ' show.

I do love a mk1 cortina, and would have one tomorrow if they weren't mortgage money!

My brother has a mk1 escort running a Harris lump.

This post is not intended to upset anyone, just pointing out that everyone has an opinion!

Don't get the standard car thing why would you want a car that a ka can pass ? But that's just me and as for the poorly welded etc etc it's a million times easier to restore a car than modify it

Now that depends on what you call restoration? If you want to do a real resto where your seeking perfection in everthing, now that takes some doing because there are cars already produced which you are copying but better. When it gets to even the spacings on spot welds/ correct lettering on labels/ correct bolts and so on. Modifying is you can put anything anywhere and there's nothing to compare it to as a reference is it right or is it wrong. Having restored bikes for a number of years and an anorack comes and judges what you have done only to stop you winning a show because a wire is the wrong colour! Getting everthing right and perfect takes some doing. So I say the opposite modding is easy, you can get away with a lot more.
