classicwhitey Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 well im 32 and started my driving in the max power age where we used to go to the shows etc but then i sore the light and fell for the old stuff. all i can say is i hope they seperate the old cars and the new rather than mix the club stands. that way we can choose where to be either way ill be on the strip all day spanking arse of all the modern plastic with their 5 inch tail pipes! 1
guido Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 yabba dabba doo, spanking the "sophisticated" modern-full-of-20inchwheels-boombox-spinners-neon cars LoL no serious, i agree with comment above. Let it be separated as it was. Everbody has their own taste and the meetings keep their character of what it's meant to be.
anglia58 Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 if this will go ahead, it will go the same way as the ford fair, it jused to be mostly old skool, when the plastc arrived, the old stuff stayed away, i did the first and second year of the classic ford show and the ford fair, the classic ford show was great, the ford fair was crap, so i only did the classic ford show every year, old stuff and no plastic. i probely will go, but if there is to much plastic, it will be the last show, i won't drive 500 miles, book a ferry, somewhere to sleep, to see cars with a value of a 100 ponds scrap. if we buy a the tickets, and go with a classic, there will be no room for plastic. you would get depressed from this news. if it's crap this year, i will find an other show in england, it's a great shame if this would happen, it's the best show in the world, much love from holland, anglia58 6
mk2 mike Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 CF was my favourite show of the year because it was purely Oldskool. I will go in 2016 but as everyone else has said, if it's rammed full of blue, orange and green plastic it'll be my last time. Definitely about the money. 1
Danish Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 To be fair they probably spend as much time making their cars how they want them as we do? yeah, but they're misguided and wrong-headed. In the car world these tend to be the people with 1.4l Fiesta's holding them on the rev limiter in the middle of the camp site at 1 in the morning. Some time ago - 1999 maybe - I was at "Storming the Castle" - a bike rally 'up north' and there was such a person banging off the rev limiter on some small-engined bike at 1am. We were huddled in our tent cursing them but not wanting any trouble. Someone shouted "will you shut up!", the revving continued, then the same voice said "now, I asked nicely" there was a soft thud sound, then the tickle of breaking plastic, then total silence fell over the campsite and we slept soundly. I think this year Classic Ford is on the same weekend as Cortina Day which is annoying as I'd like to do both.
jamie956 Posted December 7, 2015 Author Report Posted December 7, 2015 Kelsey have also scheduled the New International Ford Show the same weekend as the Beaulieu Simply Ford show.
deltamal Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 yeah, but they're misguided and wrong-headed. colr6 Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 You would have these show organisers would have got together by now to arrange dates not to clash with each show, they would get more revenue surely running different dates?
The Transplanter Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 TBH. I was a bit disapointed when I visited CF this year. Now dont get me wrong, there were some stunning motors to feast my eyes on. But I found them few and far between, as I had to sift through the chaff! The fact is, there are plenty more stunning OSF that simply wernt there! So what are the organisers to do, let it dwindle year on year, because people are to busy, cant be arsed, share rides to the show with mates, working, or to scared to bring them out??? Personally I dont want to see anything post 1980, but the only way to keep the classic shows are if people actually turn up and take their OSF to the shows, if you dont, you will be forced to look at Mondeos! End of. For me this years show was bearable, but based on the news above I wont be visiting in 2016. I know the organisers have a difficult choice but comon 1996 FFS??? 1990 would have been easier to stomach...
jamie956 Posted December 8, 2015 Author Report Posted December 8, 2015 I think the weather had a hand in the poor 2015 show,
Admin Mk2Jo Posted December 8, 2015 Admin Report Posted December 8, 2015 Old Skool Ford will still be in attendance. The way I see it is that if we don't go then it will be our loss and not theirs ... we MUST keep the Old Skool alive and attending these shows is a good way to do it. I don't think we can prevent the newer stuff from being included. It is, after all, Classic Ford Show and in 2016 the "newer" stuff will be 20 years old - not quite classic in my book but it's not Old Skool Ford Show. 5
mk2 mike Posted December 8, 2015 Report Posted December 8, 2015 I asked the question why on the CF Retards Club page. This was their reply. Hi Mike Sullivan, We have set the date as 1996 to bring the event in line with the Classic Ford Magazine and Fast Ford Magazine distinction. We will be looking to celebrate key anniversaries as certain models age with the shows, putting priority to clubs and individuals with those models. We are sorry you feel this way and hope you understand why we have made this decision. Many thanks CFS Team. Seems to me they'd be better off holding a fast ford show as well as the original cf show.
colr6 Posted December 8, 2015 Report Posted December 8, 2015 Why not keep the cars apart plastic and pre plastic then your not wasting half your time looking at what you don't want to see you know like jewelry and perfume stands! 1
jamie956 Posted December 8, 2015 Author Report Posted December 8, 2015 So with the statement from CF dose this mean all pre 96 feature cars will now be in the Classic ford magazine.
khanlad Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 Jo has made a great point, its up to us to get out there and show off what we have, its no use threatening boycotts, whether you like it or not its down to money and there not going to put on a show for 100 old fords? A bit extreme but you get my drift? If the numbers are reducing cost rising they have to do something otherwise there will be no show at all? It will be interesting to see how it affects ford fair and ford fest, maybe ford fest was a trial for this? As for the comments on 1.4 fiestas sat on rev limiters........look at the post of us leaving shows and meets like dicks! I camped at classic ford last year, there was enough of the pre 80 classic ford lot doing that sort of stuff to be worried about ronnie rev it in his festa one wheel spinning! 1
mk2 mike Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 The thing is Khan it's not just 100 old fords. There was 180 on the osf stand alone. Along with all the other stands there must have been 600 or so at least. I do get what Jo is saying but imo the best way is to vote with your feet. I know in the big picture it won't make any difference and the show will continue regardless albeit with newer cars, but why ruin the one true show for our cars when there already have ford fair and ford fest for the later cars?
khanlad Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 I understand your point mike but there must be an equation of people through the gate to the cost of putting the show on and if its not reaching the that then they have to finds ways of getting more in? If that means opening it up to a wider audience then thats what they'll do? If we as pre 80's ford people want it to be soley for that then we need to get behind it, yeah theres trade stands but most of the show is joe public rolling up and saying look at my car, how cool? If as many people go, the pre 80 and a few others go too, whats the problem, nobody is forcing you to look at stuff you dont want to! People are always going to throw the toys out, coments were made about it being the same year after year, its a strip, people show there cars, how can you make it different? 1
mk2 mike Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 The thing is, it's a completely misguided concept. "Let's add later cars to get more people in". result; less old car fans attend so there's no real increase in numbers. Personally the 'don't look at them if you don't like them' argument doesn't hold water for me for the simple reason that the more newer cars on display in a limited space means less space for older cars. Will I travel a long distance to see a show of 800 old cars? Yes. Will I travel a long distance to see 50 old cars and 750 cars I see everyday in tescos car park? No. They certainly aren't lacking customers from the old format, trying to get more in just smacks of greed to me, probably due to the vastly reduced numbers of magazine sales (which by the way, are regularly featuring more and more newer cars...coincidence?) If they want to mix it up there's lots of ways to do that without alienating their key demographic. Changing the venue, focusing on a different model each year, etc etc. There's a saying that applies here. If it ain't broke don't fix it... That said, they're clearly trying to 'fix it' so we'll just have to go along and see what it's like in practice! 1
john123 Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 lol i love the debate its normaly after the show is held i love organising my own show where all classic fords are welcome and its free 1
khanlad Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 If everyone that goes to classic ford still goes you would have a normal classic ford meet? If a few newer old fords go who cares? Its only when pre 80 start saying they arent going because the later cars are going that the numbers would reduce? The only problem i could see would be if the display area for pre 80 gets reduced as a result? That said its a big enough venue that we could all fit in?
MotownMonster Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 Once all this very dull FWD junk started appearing in Classic Ford l stopped buying the magazine. Had not missed a single issue since its conception. KA and Mondaneo belong in appliance white goods weekly along with Hoovers, Hotpoint tumble dryers & microwave ovens. Might as well do the Classic Ford National in a Costco or Curry's car park, l wont be going anymore KaSSSsss & MundanesSSSsss. 3
mk2 mike Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 lol i love the debate its normaly after the show is held i love organising my own show where all classic fords are welcome and its free And your show is great John. Being free makes a big difference IMO, having to travel a distance AND pay a not insignificant amount to see a load of plastic adds insult to injury. Plus you're only 30 mins from me
irishtorag Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 Mike i get your gripe threw and threw ...Neal Egan show in Ireland has gone the same way and yes more older fords wont travel to it.. Take the opel /vauxhal show in Billing they are opened to every thing but its all laid out old, custom, newish, new and it works as it caters for all..I hate new plastic shows and had many a row about rs focus etc but got back they are a classic from new . Maybe its time a few marques got together and held a retro rally /classic car show and blow the rest of the shows out of the water as such. Something like the retro cars mag with everything pre 80's . kenny just my opinion 1
john123 Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 the only thing i need to atract is auto jumble which next year escort-tech also the hpe stand + more will have auto jumble more to come and free camping for the weekend
