colr6 Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Just going through the glass for my Tina ( not literally ) discovered quite a few scratches when cleaned and a wiper mark on front screen. Has anyone used or can recommend a scratch remover, when you read the write ups on most of them there all supposed to be the dogs danglies. But as found with other products some are shite and not worth the effort. Let me know if you've had any success with any of them. Cheers Col.
Admin Vista Posted March 15, 2016 Admin Report Posted March 15, 2016 In my experience, polishing car glass is a waste of time for anything but the very lightest / finest of scratches. A good rule of thumb is that if you can feel it with your finger nail, it won't come out
khanlad Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Years ago when I worked in a garage we had a man in a van come out to do that stuff. It was better but never perfect, can't remember his name and it was in Coventry so of absolutely no use whatsoever to you! 1
dalmarshall Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Autosol metal polish?....sounds weird but someone recently told me it works on glass hobs.....and it did!!! 1
deltamal Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 I've just replaced my front screen because of the scratches, driving home to Devon the sun in mostly in your eyes! an improvement as I now have a blue tinted zone at the top
colr6 Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Thanks for the replies guys, suppose I could take it into the local windscreen place after twatting it with a hammer and pay the £70 excess on screens and have a new one fitted. But knowing my luck they'll say sorry mate it's going to be a special order £350 please.
Admin Vista Posted March 15, 2016 Admin Report Posted March 15, 2016 These are a worthwhile upgrade mate and not that expensive in the grand scheme of things http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/acatalog/ford-cortina-lotus-clear-heated-windscreen.html#SID=282 Or they do non heated ones too http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/acatalog/ford-cortina-mk1-clear-laminated-windscreen.html
colr6 Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Got my Anglia laminated one from a place in Stafford, the screens are relativity cheap it's the delivery what whaps the price up. Think on the Anglia the delivery was more than the screen!
Admin Vista Posted March 15, 2016 Admin Report Posted March 15, 2016 I was up there anyway so collected mine in person
colr6 Posted March 15, 2016 Author Report Posted March 15, 2016 Could be an option, I need some stainless bumpers from Harringtons so could be worth the trip and get a screen aswell
PeteRS8084 Posted March 15, 2016 Report Posted March 15, 2016 Col, a trick we used in the army was polish with cardboard and wait for it........liquid brasso.........and I can hear you saying brasso, in the army never! Just Try it on a non obvious place first. Hope this helps Pete 1
colr6 Posted March 17, 2016 Author Report Posted March 17, 2016 Well chaps I've tried every polish and or abrasive known to man, by hand and by machine. NO GOOD worth a try though. Better order some new ones
AlanRM Posted March 19, 2016 Report Posted March 19, 2016 Don't polishes include abrasives? Surely no good for glass.
