Clear indicator lenses...... what bulbs?

I've got some clear indicator leneses for my Mk1 Escort and figure I now need amber bulbs?

 

If so, any idea where's the best place to get some. I think I'll replace the break bulbs whilst I'm at it

Any motor factors should have what you need, two types of amber bulb one have offset pins, take your old bulb to match

If you want to go through the infamous auction site your search is 1156 Amber Bulbs. I also added -LED (to cut them out of the search) as the LED ones I tried sent things whacky. I will only use conventional filament bulbs for indicators now.

LED indicators will require an electronic flasher relay as they have virtually no resistance that usually governs the electro mechanical types flash speed - hence they freak out!

Yes this is true otherwise they flash really fast. However even with an appropriate relay they still went whacky on my Mk2. When for example I put the right indicators on the front left would also partially flash. I could never figure out how this was happening but my only guess was that it was related to how hazard flasher was wired in. While I use LEDs for my instrument illumination with great success, for indicators and brakes its filament bulbs all the way.

I painted mine on my t4 transporter with orange nail varnish it's been on 3 years and all good.

Hi, The rear indicators will be the same 1156 you just select a clear conventional version not amber. Rear brake are 1157 21/5w dual filament bulbs with a dual base pin arrangement so the 5w part comes on a parking lights and the 21w part lights up when you brake.

 

#Note - The dual filament 1157 was not used in every Mk1 Tail-light incarnation so you may need to double check All Mk2s used them though. I have seen 3 different tail-light set ups. My Twincam has no reverse lights on the bumper like later ones so the brake lights are wired up as reverse lights but dont illuminate much being red. It uses the 1157 dual filament bulb mentioned above and so does the version that has reverse lights on the bumper. The third version I have seen is one that has separated parking and brake lights. So one separate bulb for each in which case the 1157 is not the right bulb. You would use a clear 1156 in that instance for the brake and a lower wattage version for the parking light. Let me know which version you have. Easiest way to tell, does the brake bulb you have in their have 2 contacts on the base?

Got the same thing on my Mk2 RS2 - the stock reversing lights are candles in comparison. Had one on my '68 Mini Cooper 'S' but wired to a dash switch - F**ks up tailgaters right good - blinded and doing 70mph!

Nice idea. I have a reproduction Lucas one, but the Cortina has a different boot shape so the reverse lamp is actually on the boot lid. Not good - I managed to get an LED version of the old Lucas 45W bulb, but I still don't rate its life expectancy.

Cheers VIsta. I don't want to drill my bumpers so would prefer a slimline rear mounting one though

 

There are numerous rectangular ones that bumper mount of Fleabay but I'd prefer a round one [not that I'm being fussy! ]

To stop hazards flashing fast u need a ballast registering parallel with the bulb approx 10w I'm guessing
