Going to have my carbs cleaned, is it best to strip carbs as much as poss or just float chambers and jets ? Don't want to take them and they say oh we had to strip and that's cost me some more cash!

I got mine from Maplin's - 2.5L model that will take a single bike carb when broken down. A unit to take a DCOE for instance would be a small commercial unit with a corresponding price tag - mine was about £90 new

Just looked at those, was going to measure the dellortos I have to see if will go in the bowl. They also list a 3ltr model but bowl size exactly the same. As you say go any bigger than that it's loan time.

6 litre is minimum for a twin choke carb and not ideal. 10 litre capacity is advisable for ultrasonic cleanup of carbs.

I use Tickopur R33 ( 3-5% mixture with water ) as a cleaning solvent at about 60-70' Celcius for about 30 minuts.

Don't do a carb for more than 45 minuts as the ultrasonic vibrations will damage the carb badly ( I did test that ).

Best is 30 minutes maximum in the ultrasonic bath.

Best results, degrease the carb with solvent.

Put it in a bath of paint thinner for about 24-48 hours. Blow it though and through with compressed air.

After that, ultrasonic bath with Tickopur R33 for 20-30 minutes. Rinse with water, blow it through and through with compressed air.

Your carb will look like new now with a shiny finish.

DIY ultrasonic tips. As most ultrasonic cleaners are not capable of heating up the water properly, just use hot water to fill it, it saves you lots of heating-up time.

Turn the ultrasonic cleaner on for about 20 minutes before use to get rid of all the air in the water. After this you can clean anything you want with it, I even do ally brake callipers with it.

The cleaner the piece is before you put it in the bath, the longer you can reuse the cleaning agent.

Found a 6ltr one on the net for about £100. Going by the size would have thought it would be adequate 300x300x180 not doing a lot of parts problably only use it a couple of times then like lots of other stuff I have on the shelf

It can be done using the 6litre one, its a bit more hassle that's all. Its the one I use at home.

I have access to a 10 litre also at my work that's why I know the benefits of the 10litre version.

they are not expensive, just buy the 27 litre one

I have the same, only digital version. It says 6 litre but it isn't. It only holds about 4,5 litre of solvent. But it will work.

Weber DGAV or DGAS is a very tight fit and might be better done in two sessions. Base first and all the other parts ( top cover, side covers needles etc.) next.

Don't use an Ultrasonic cleaner without the basket. There needs to be some room between the bottom and the parts to clean otherwise it wont work. The basket will provide that.

Been having a look around going to go the way Ray suggested 27ltr one. In for a penny in for a pound! Would get most things in that I need cleaning. Will have to do some studying to see what can and can't be cleaned using one. Just going to tell the wife it's for cleaning her jewellery.

it would  bemore use in cutting off her wedding ring rather than your wedding tackle, as without you showing her she, would never understand how to use it, as its not white

My new 27ltr ultrasonic digital cleaner, was hoping to get a bike in it so I could enter show and shine at retro show but it won't fit ! Means I'm going to have to buy the dragon some more jewelry now, that's what I told her it was for cleaning

hi, i needed to get a carb cleaned for my van, and i saw this here, i bought a cleaner, a 3litre one,

it's a bit small, but it''s juseable, i put the bottom half off the carb in it, on 60 degrees for 10 min,

then turned it around for an other 10 min, did the same for the other parts, and jused the stuff what jp

jused, i have to say it works fantastic, i put the carb on the van, and it run great.

the sonic cleaners on ebay are cheaper than in holland, my cleaner works for me, and for the best price

Just a revival of an old thread,

Eventually got round to using my ultrasonic cleaner today.....bloody marvellous. The amount of crap that came off my carbs was unreal. Would highly recommend anybody getting one. Certainly money well spent.

you couldn't have needed it that badly Colin, if its taken you that long to use it

they are bloody good tho aren't they

The Anglebox got put to one side while sorting the Tina out. Hopefully it might get rid of this misfire it had last time I tracked it. Will find out on Wednesday when it hits the track again. But got to admit what a difference it made to the carbs look wise now will see if it's improved the performance.

tbh, first fire up of the E after cleaning, and wow, it was good, then is sat for a year due to couldn't get access, and I'm not happy with its running since, despite fresh fuel, so I've just bought a brand new carb to see if its that
