chinkamon Posted June 10, 2016 Report Posted June 10, 2016 Mornin all! So finally got the Tina running properly but if I put my foot down it stutters an wheeze as if not enough fuel, if I gently accelerate there's no issues Tanks been drained an cleaned, full of clean fresh fuel, new fuel pump an recently fitted a new filter. So is that a mixture issue or carb blockage or somat?
colr6 Posted June 10, 2016 Report Posted June 10, 2016 A carb clean is first on the list, check accelerater pump is working, air leaks, if you have air leak normally idle suffers, vacumn advance working on distrib. You can check diaphragm on dist by sucking on pipe if you find resistance the diaphragm is ok. Assuming all ign side is up to speed. 1
chinkamon Posted June 10, 2016 Author Report Posted June 10, 2016 Just stuck in new electric ignition an coil but Hasn't made any difference
JP. Posted June 10, 2016 Report Posted June 10, 2016 As said before, A carb clean is first on the list. Just dismantle it completely, throw it in a bath of paint thinner for 48 hours, blow it with compressed air through all the channels an put it back together. And use this after the cleanup http://www.frost.co.uk/ethomix-corrosion-inhibitor-additive-ethanol-protection.html.
chinkamon Posted June 11, 2016 Author Report Posted June 11, 2016 Well took the carb apart... looks ok to me!!!??? Nice and clean.....
colr6 Posted June 11, 2016 Report Posted June 11, 2016 Dear oh dear, always try the free things first 2
colr6 Posted June 11, 2016 Report Posted June 11, 2016 I get a black residue in my float chambers, it has been mentioned it could be the additives in unleaded fuel eating the braided hose I use
chinkamon Posted June 11, 2016 Author Report Posted June 11, 2016 Yea in my corsair I use to use a castrol additive altho I never new if if was worth it?

colr6 Posted June 11, 2016 Report Posted June 11, 2016 They can be checked without taking carb off just open the throttle and should get a nice squirt ! At least you've found a fault. All systems GO 1
chinkamon Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 They can be checked without taking carb off just open the throttle and should get a nice squirt ! At least you've found a fault. All systems GO Yea although with the amount of crud that was in the tank last week or so ago I knew it'd be worth taking it apart! Amazing how it can travel through the system......when u have no filter haha
chinkamon Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 Just stuck in new electric ignition an coil but Hasn't made any difference By the way I was putting new elec ignition on anyway as I seen benefits on my old truck
colr6 Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 Yea although with the amount of crud that was in the tank last week or so ago I knew it'd be worth taking it apart! Amazing how it can travel through the system......when u have no filter haha The amount of 'crud' that was in your tank can see this being a re acurring problem, think I'd be putting a nice large remote paper filter in line.
chinkamon Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 Yea I got a small clear paper one for now whilst I "Ironed out" the problems but I've seen on eBay glass washable inline filters from accuspark which I thought maybe useful Or am I best just buying a load of cheap plastic clear paper ones an replacing often?? The ones on eBay were only a couple of quid!
katana Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 Cheap and ebay speaks volumes - it may filter rocks and dogs but unlikely to filter what you need it to! To work effectively a filter has to be small enough that over time it blocks and cleaning will reduce that effect - that's why majority of filters are throw away items! K&N air filters are different - you clean off the dirt with the oil that traps the dirt, the cloth and gauze just holds the oil! Buy the plastic ones - they aren't that dear! 1

Buy the plastic ones - they aren't that dear! This is the ones I was looking at, I heard concerns over plastic ones and as it's in the engine bay I was slightly more concerned? Both cost the same so not bothered about the price but wandered which other people would consider the better purchase??
colr6 Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 You could always whip to the scrappy and get a remote one off a diesel car, not as pretty but diesel pumps don't like crap going through them so they'd be quite effective 1
chinkamon Posted June 12, 2016 Author Report Posted June 12, 2016 I got no worries about spending money on something if it's the right product, but was concerned as when selling my corsair a guy went mental at me about how dangerous plastic fuel filters where. I never gave it a second thought as used them for years but he said there's been a spat of them cracking an leaking so I got a bit cautious now I'm keeping this car i want to be safe hahah
Veemax Posted June 13, 2016 Report Posted June 13, 2016 I get a black residue in my float chambers, it has been mentioned it could be the additives in unleaded fuel eating the braided hose I use it seems to be the concensous world wide that the ethanol in fuel eats away at brass, aluminium and all rubber parts in the fuel system,
