Why would they want pictures of the clocks?

Ive just converted my speedo to MPH (second hand speedo head) from KPH on my import.

Ive also been offered an inspection :? and going to be ringing them monday.

Only mods the car has had is 1 inch lowering blocks at the back and fitted a pair of RS fishnets in the front as the original seats were absolute toast.

Possibly only checking the chassis number is what your declaring. If it's a left hooker don't forget the headlamps will need changing to rhd ones.

Its on my list of things to do. It had beam image deflectors fitted at time of test.

I'll ring em monday and book an id check.

Well, an inspector checked my car thismorning and it is what it seas on the tin :-).

He sead he checks vehicles, sends the paperwork to DVLA and thats it. Doesnt hear anything back.

So now playing the waiting game....again!

I watched from a far .

He looked all over the car. 1st off taking pictures of  the engine and engine number, the vin stamp on the inner wing and the vin tag on the slam panel. A few of the interior inc one or 2 of the dash clocks. And a few  distance (15ft give or take) shots of the car front, side and back). When he came to talk to me afterwards he sead that he'd noted that the rear suspension had been refurbed  and there were new rack gaiters and a track rod end fitted (all my work).

I didnt see him look underneath but he must have.

Didnt mention the 1 inch lowering blocks or fishnet recaros.

I cant think of any more hoops DVLA want me to jump through. But there maybe more. I wouldnt put anything past em.

Good luck mate. I hope you get the result you want. As long as you have stuck within the rules for the 8 point system you shoukd be fine. Its scary knowing 1 person holds the value of your car in their hand

I had a similar issue when i bought mine, it had a v5c with it but because its not been on the road for years. They requested photos originally then more photos and eventually an examination.

On the bottom of my letter it said the car had to be complete.

I explained that i have spent my life savings on it so it could be 10 years before its complete and then i would never get a log book.

They then agreed to send me a list of photos required which were random things like the inside of the fuel filler neck etc. They sent them to the UK's leading Ford specialist for verification, it took a while but they eventually verified it was a genuine AVO and issued the log book.

Having read up loads on the examination, it appeared that they just come to your house take photos of id plates etc and the car as a whole and thats it. I think its more of an audit trail thing rather than actually identity checks etc and the people that come have no specialist knowledge of mk1's. They are just a massive inspection company that operate it all industries. Think it is probably easier getting the exam done than sending the photos but srill amazing that someone can hold the value of our cars in a decision like this.

The thing to be worried about for a lot of people would be getting a Q plate as many Mk1's would have had changes or repairs to the shell and under their 8 point scoring system might lead to a Q plate being issued.

yeah suppose its good in the long run, if ever the car was nicked and has distiguishing features then they are on record at dvla. as i said, i was gonna do a lot of things to the shell. now im not. just uprated running gear that can all be changed back if needed.

Do you have the log book already and they just want to check it again or is it your first application for the log book.

Its the money thing for me. If i had to sell it as an unregistered vehicle id loose at least half of what ive put into it. I had a few as a teen and now in my 40s.

As angry as id get about it, i wouldnt lose sleap over it (could in theory afford the loss) but the dream would be over.

I would be crazy. I bought mine partially as an investment and because since i was kid i always wanted one so it was an easy decision. But to think you risk someone saying it needs a Q plate or its not an Avo was scary cos i spent everything i had on it knowing it would be worth double when finished.

If i bought one again i would ensure i got one that was mot'd recently or atleast been on the road in the last 2 years

got the logbook in my name, owned it since 98 but not officially been on the road since ive had it. did a bit of auto testing with years ago then started to tidy it up. then i thought rather than tidy it up i want to build a propper tool to a great standard. hence the time, and sourcing correct parts.

The ford Heritage guys at work have to look most stuff up that I ask them about and as for authenticity the rally escorts there have so many different parts doubt they would clear the points system and been reshelled several times

Dvla dont seem to see it that way sadly. I reckon most mk1's on the road would end up with a q plate if inspected. Sad really

You have to remember you dont just get issued a Q plate anymore in cases like this. Hasn't been that way for years. The vehicle would have to pass the BIVA test, though not impossible, can be difficult and expensive.

The other way out would be to register it as a re constructed classic and get age related plate. But the big problem there would be proving the age authenticity of all the parts and receipts for the parts etc. A lot of help needed from the respective owners club. Wont work if the car is too modified either.

Would it have been easier to put it on a UK log book?

Not suggesting this is the right or wrong thing to do, but you seem to be jumping through a lot of hoops.

If you get caught ringing you could end up sharing a cell with someone jumping through your hoop.......
