jas Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 my cortina is a 67 reg year but it is showing up on dvla site mot exempt is this a new law is anyone else the same.
colr6 Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 Maybe tax exempt . But far as I know MOT exemption is from 1st Jan 1960
jas Posted December 16, 2016 Author Report Posted December 16, 2016 I think the dvla site might be messed up i put the reg off a 74 car in and said the same mot exempt
katana Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 There was talk of combining the tax AND MOT exemption on the 40 year rolling basis - seems it may have happened?
Admin Vista Posted December 17, 2016 Admin Report Posted December 17, 2016 Interesting, where is it saying MOT exempt? The DVLA's website is still saying MOT exemption is pre 1960 https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Wish they would move it to the rolling 40yr rule would save me a lot of aggro.

The DVLA's website is still saying MOT exemption is pre 1960 https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles http://www.historicvehicles.org.uk/hvg3.php....... about 3rd or 4th item down - I did say talk / rumour LOL!
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Notice it's a Yorkshireman pushing for it!
Admin Vista Posted December 17, 2016 Admin Report Posted December 17, 2016 http://www.historicvehicles.org.uk/hvg3.php....... about 3rd or 4th item down - I did say talk / rumour LOL! Thanks but I meant where is Jas getting the feedback that his car is MOT exempt? As to the above, personally I am opposed to any cars being MOT Exempt and think some kind of road safety check should remain obligatory.
jas Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 Off dvla where u can look to see if a car is taxed https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-taxand that where it says mot exempt
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Mine doesn't and it's a 1960 (March) ....just my luck. If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have none at all 1
jas Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 I put the reg off someones f reg cortina and that one said no mot they must off messed up with some old cars
jas Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 just so u all no im not going mad just yet the reg off the ford i put in was vyv177m
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 See what you mean, it's in black and white, well near enough. Don't think mr plod would see it like that though....lol
Admin Vista Posted December 17, 2016 Admin Report Posted December 17, 2016 Yep, says MOT exempt alright. I don't get the same for my 74 or 72 car there. I reckon it's an admin cock up personally
jas Posted December 17, 2016 Author Report Posted December 17, 2016 Its not a good thing anyway always better to get your car looked over just find it odd how some are saying exempt and others are not .
l j shaw Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 My 60s Anglias need MOT ....but none of my 70s escorts don't need it now ...yippee ...but I guess it's just as people say ...it's an admin over sight
eeb43 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Thanks but I meant where is Jas getting the feedback that his car is MOT exempt? As to the above, personally I am opposed to any cars being MOT Exempt and think some kind of road safety check should remain obligatory. a check is required for road use if you get a tug and plod find anything the matter with your car they will do you and not let you move it on the road the same as any mot liable car so why not just have it motd at least then you have an idea that it is ok
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 If they continue with the MOT status on historic cars possibly a reduction in fees
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted December 17, 2016 Moderator Report Posted December 17, 2016 How much do MOTs costs there?
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 How much do MOTs costs there? £45 the going rate there are some discount mots as low as £30 but not many
eeb43 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 i pay 33 one locally is 25 but i think the retail price is about 57?
colr6 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 I couldn't get much discount if I took four bikes and two cars all in one day
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted December 17, 2016 Moderator Report Posted December 17, 2016 £45 the going rate there are some discount mots as low as £30 but not many Our Pink Slips cost the equivalent of 20 pounds but I dont believe they are as thorough or comprehensive as your MOTs. Its just a check that all the indicators lights and brakes work and nothing so worn out with the suspension or tyres that its dangerous. Its over in less than 10 minutes max.
