chinkamon Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 hi all I've had a few issues regarding carbs over the last few months finally I have pretty much the correct carb on the car.....except the choke is off a 1200 carb not a 1500. but all jets are correct and cleàr however driving along just now at a gentle 2-2500 revs and she just stuttering a bit then further on down the road out of the blue starts kangeroo-ing for about 25 metres til I ease off the gas the it's ok again but seemingly randomly it will stutter an cough a bit ( is the only way I can describe it) we stuck it on the gas analyser the other night an it was reading about right. it goes a bit weak when u nail it but I don't plan on doing that much so didn't bother me any ideas? is it just the incorrect amount of air -fuel ratio due to the incorrect choke size???
puddy Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Check the short piece of hose from the sender to the fuel line at the tank hasn't swollen up . It did it on my mk1 and ran like a pig . puddy 1
chinkamon Posted April 8, 2017 Author Report Posted April 8, 2017 fuel lines all brand new puddy, stuck it in when I put the new tank in altho the filter is pretty Brown?!
mk1del Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Check electrics out make sure a lead or plug not arcing out, also check rotor arm and points or condenser, could be breaking down under load, 1

SmokeEm Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 Sounds electrical to me. Check dizzy csp for hairline crack? Also the graphite bit at top. Then swap out condenser etc until sorted.
chinkamon Posted April 9, 2017 Author Report Posted April 9, 2017 I got elec ignition on the basis that it wouldn't go wrong haha do you think its worth putting original ignition back in an trying??

Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted April 9, 2017 Moderator Report Posted April 9, 2017 Skip would never take acid, he led the rangers to the drug smugglers in the national park. A bit of national pride here, that would be like us suggesting Winnie the Pooh's honey pot was just that little bit sweeter than actual honey!. He certainly always had a severe case of the munchies. 3
chinkamon Posted April 9, 2017 Author Report Posted April 9, 2017 urmmmm I have used accuspark yea..... elec ignition an silicone ht leads.....why?!?!??!?????
chinkamon Posted April 9, 2017 Author Report Posted April 9, 2017 has it still got the ballast resistor wire or ceramic ,or is it now 12volt direct with correct coil , ummmmmmmmmmmm ummmmmmmmm I bought electronic ignition an swopped the bits over an other than that she's stock... without getting a torch moving the car out the way of the garage opening the garage door opening the bonnet and having a look I'll guess til tomorrow evening an say yes still has the ballast wire lol
chinkamon Posted April 9, 2017 Author Report Posted April 9, 2017 How good is are earth lead connections? all earth cables are new within last 12 months and bare metal to terminal contact
chinkamon Posted April 9, 2017 Author Report Posted April 9, 2017 all earth cables are new within last 12 months and bare metal to terminal contact although I'm having issues with my side light and earth to side light.?? surely that wouldn't make any difference??
SmokeEm Posted April 10, 2017 Report Posted April 10, 2017 Accuspark is cheap Chinese crap! I know of many that have failed right out of the box. I also know of many still going strong but if I were you, I'd change it over to the Aldon set up. 100% reliable and at least you would know its not that at fault.
chinkamon Posted April 10, 2017 Author Report Posted April 10, 2017 Accuspark is cheap Chinese crap!heeeeyyy steady on....im part Chinese....yea ok the stuff they make is a bit crap!!! so aldon are the best then? can't go spendi g £1000s tho lol
chinkamon Posted April 13, 2017 Author Report Posted April 13, 2017 Yea I managed to find some listed, I'm going for new leads and dizzy cap first as that only cost £50 from Burton an they're proper ones unlike the set I got from accuspark that u make yourself, then spark plugs an If it's still the same I know all that's ruled out an I'll get a new elec ignition then so fingers crossed!!
