HotRodMatt Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 An update I saw earlier today. Download link for those who wish to have a copy: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/668274/vehicles-of-historical-interest-substantial-change-guidance.pdf
katana Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 No gaping 'Grand Canyon' sized grey areas in that document - No Sir!

Safety cage N/A or safety grounds, type 9 5 speed box Within 10 yrs of End of Escort production / efficiency, single piece prop Efficiency, LSD efficiency, group 4 steering knuckle safety, WC cross member period / safety, twin carbs MOODY MOD, +40 pistons period and who can tell !, panhard rod safety / efficiency, coilovers on front MOODY MOD, lowered 2” on rear N/A. who would class my car as within the legal limits ? See in RED So on balance - most allowable although some would need explaining IMO.

Admin Vista Posted December 18, 2017 Admin Report Posted December 18, 2017 Formal statements from the DVLA and FBHVC attached. The important point to take away is that the only difference this self declaration will make is whether or not your car qualifies as a VHI and is therefore exempt from an MOT. By association I assume if it does not qualify as a VHI, it will not be exempt VED when it reaches the 40 year milestone. HotRodMatt Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 So can you be tax exempt (VHI) and still opt out of MoT exemption? eg Your car is substantially changed so must be MoT'd but is over 40 years old? Or do you have to pay tax if you MoT?
eeb43 Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 last paragraph of the second page!!!!!!!!
Leo Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 All that says to me is don't apply to be mot free if you've modified your car. Nothing about substantially altered vehicle rules. It still could mean trouble for modified cars. Not relevant to the main issue of q plates.
HotRodMatt Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 last paragraph of the second page!!!!!!!! So unless I'm reading it wrong as long as it's NOT been modified in the last 30 years it is tax exempt, and if it has then it isn't tax exempt? How are they going to police that one?!
Leo Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 It doesn't mention tax exemption as such, same form number for mot exemption. It doesn't address the original 8 point check regarding q plates. It reads as a different document regarding this.
HotRodMatt Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 Fairly safe to say they have produced a document that the authorities and enthusiasts are happy with. Christmas truly is the time for miracles, eh?
Leo Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 "Whether a sustantsuslly chamged vehicle requires re registration is a different process." were not out of the woods yet.
