Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted December 8, 2017 Moderator Report Posted December 8, 2017 I think some dont appreciate the mecca that the UK is for the world classic car market, apart from American muscle of course. While some Prius driving bureaucrat may put some of his or her Pro EU agenda onto the desk of their boss with the intent to head us down the path of electric cars and mass transit believing we are too ignorant to know whats best for ourselves, when it reaches the eyes of a politician who has banner waving MG logos and VW Beetles creating traffic jams outside his office you can be sure that most of these totalitarian proposals will get hit on the head. If the classic car fraternity and industry mobilise it will be more powerful than the tobacco lobby if nothing but in sheer manpower. We are just at the stage some anti car cycling enthusiast thinks he is controlling the narrative at the moment. The classic car backlash will be brutal and decisive. Try not worry yourselves into ulcers just yet. There will be G-Wiz burning in the streets and it will smell good. 1

PeterMEscort Posted December 8, 2017 Report Posted December 8, 2017 Won't really matter much in 20 or so years anyway.... At the moment we are all going through a bubble where we want to buy and enjoy the cars we had when we were young back in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. In 20 or so years our generation will be trying to sell off or toys because we will be too old to enjoy them or be able to drive them. However the newer generations of people will have less, or no, interest in our cars because they won't be able to identify with them because they did not grow up with them. The newer generation are only able to identify with their addictions and consumption to mobile phones and "transient virtual technologies". Motor cars will be regarded as a disposable consumer item with no associated emotional attachment. 1

Freud would actually say that our enthusiasm for old unique cars is a subconscious attempt at attention seeking in order to get more sex. Personally I find the opposite to be true, the more of a car aficionado you try to be the less attractive you seem to become to desirable others. I guess that third Escort is out of the question then, Im already lonely enough as it is.

I don't think thats completely true, I'm 27 and grew up with my dad driving sierra's but for me its always been the anglias/escorts/cortinas I saw at shows he took me to. A lot of the current OSF owners have kids of which can still grow up to say "my dad had one of those" and perhaps hanker after one themselves? probably even more so now they're something out of the norm and not the everyman's car of yesteryear. If what you say proves to be true then rest assured, I'll enjoy the hell out of your guys' cars that I've bought for £50 when youre dribbling in a home and your families are clearing out "grandads old shit".......... If I can get them registered of course 1
