suppose it depends on the value of the car. my mate worked at ford years ago, a wrote off cossie came in and had a new shell. legally. doubt it would happen with todays crap cars though.

i remember the insurance companies allowing 40 hours including painting to reshell a mk4 escort into a new shell

I can remember seeing a couple of shells a week at the local ford dealers, I bought one a brand new damaged RS2 mk1 shell

fella near me bought a brand new 3 door cossie shell and an escort cossie motorsport shell. he built the escort up almost complete, black paint, brand new leather trim, split rims with gold edges like the vecta escort. it was a proper tool. it was sold on 3 or 4 times and keeps cropping up on pistonheads. everybody keeps having trouble trying to register it.

If you want a nice drive comfort,performance all the bells and whistles,why not fit the body around the chassis you want,a friend of mine bought a rolled Audi rs4 and put mk2 Granada over it ,so left everything on inside etc underbonnet but drove like and rs4 with the looks of a classic granny,four wheel drive and 420hp ,just got to make sure the wheel base is very close and width and anything can be done,heated electric seats sat navy etc ahhh bisto ??

As mentioned on the other thread I wouldn't scrap a genuine 4 door RS2000 for parts. Its too valuable and rare a car in its own right. Most of the trim bits would be useless for a 2 door. I totally appreciate the type of car you are aiming for but destroying a complete rare genuine sports model for what amounts to the nose and front guards seems like false economy. Sell the RS on and get yourself a 2 door shell and build from there. I'm fairly certain you will recoup your money or more on the RS. There is an enthusiast out there in the UK that is dying to own it. I would love to take one to shows in the UK and have all the anoraks challenging its authenticity. It would be so much fun to see the looks on their faces when you show them R2000 and 4 door embossed on the compliance plates!

Too hard to say what its worth-everyones opinion is different-but if it is as clean as it looks it shouldn't cost more than a grand to rhd convert so bearing that in mind i'd start at £7k with a final price of £7500 being my limit. Everythings there trim wise and clip wise etc. just add your comfy/go faster bits bobs your uncle.
