Ahhhh so it being a replica is the thing I was missing! Thanks

It's suppose its still a Royal Enfield, but just a more modern build and probably a lot more reliable.

Ok I have watched the first series all but the Ferrari 308 episode. Im too scared to watch that one. Enzo Ferrari said that with Ferrari you bought the engine and you get the rest of the car for free so not sure what happens when it has an electric motor put in it?

I didn't watch them in order but the MG Midget one I watched last has me shocked a bit. It cost 50 thousand pounds for its conversion but I guess ten of that went to its paint and restoration but can an MG Midget ever be worth 50k that's no longer even original? The main guy likes the make bold claims like the Land Rover with an electric motor is as good as a Defender can ever be while only testing it on a relatively mild friends farm? It wouldn't even have enough juice range to even get anywhere harsh and remote. And with the MG Midget he says that by electrifying this classic makes it future proof for the next generations all the while he cant finish the job because he cant get parts and we never even get to see it running? If he cant get the parts now its hardly going to be future proof with technology like this is outdated so quickly. And the constant barb about cost savings per km after an initial outlay of twenty to fifty thousand pounds plus the cost of the car on a vehicle that will be a weekender at best I don't see you ever recouping fuel costs in your lifetime and certainly never before the batteries will need replacement.

Hmmm I haven't been convinced about this electric business yet. The show was interesting all the same as something new to watch.

Seems it's for those with exceptionally deep pockets and trying to be seen as doing the right thing? Like spending £60-70k odd on a Tesla but spending it on a classic conversion instead for showing off down the pub. Oh i've got an electric car i'm saving the planet etc...

So if a Ferrari 308 is a better car without its engine because its faster and more even weigh distribution maybe its time to do the Twincam? @colr6 Can I still call it a Twincam after that? 🤔

I haven't seen the programmes but have seen a 308 conversion on another youtube channel and it looked ok. I guess it depends on what technology is being used ie. Milk Float motors and lead acid batteries ain't going to match modern brushless motors on each wheel and new battery modules. Weight wise you'd be losing a heavy'ish V8, gearbox, drive shafts and fuel tank, also radiators, fans and cooling system - a sizable chunk of poundage! Plus with regenerative braking those components may be lightened!

Its certainly not going to be for everyone but a 308 these days isn't an everyday car but with leccy power and a 50 - 60 mile range it would easily serve me well and sub 5 second 0-60's in a 40 yr old car has to be addictive?

I bit the bullet and watched the Ferrari episode. That Youtube car you mentioned was featured in that episode alongside another 308 they were doing. So there were 2 of them! They had to do upgrades to the first one 12 months after the original installation. This future-proofing nonsense all but put to bed as they highlighted controllers they had to change on the first one after just 12 months and then on the new one they were doing how it no longer needed water cooling for one of its controllers and only a singe one was required where the one a year earlier required 2. I dread to think when these things a ten years old nothing will be usable that you will have to start all over again from scratch having spend 65 thousand pounds plus car for the conversion. Half the cars on this show they never even finish so you don't actually see the end result. With the Ferrari 308 it wasn't even close to being finished so they showed the one from the Youtube video instead. it was (Here's one we prepared earlier moment). When he did demonstrate that one under power he racked his neck back pretending like a kid driving a toy cart to be under high G force, it was quite embarrassing really. They certainly have a phobia about the possibility that anything they have done is a step backwards. Everything is always better, better this better that better than original, even when they got a detailer to do a cut and polish to the first car its finish was suddenly "Better" than it came out of the factory. Probably shouldn't have watched that episode!

The 'youtube' 308 was tested by a guy who had a rough but passable 308 with 'normal' powertrain and I believe he went into the test with an open mind and found the car to be better in most respects than his own except the 'involvement of driving' This I can understand - I like a racket from the mechanics when driving an old car, having just a whine + acceleration wouldn't do it for me. Apparently that car had been owned for a long time and was due an engine overhaul which if true was a potential 20k bill and the conversion was touted at 40k. Now as regards obsolescence - it uses Tesla technology and no one seems to be worrying about them being obsolescent in the near future. As regard range I was being a bit mean - the owner estimated 170-180 miles which the tester guy admitted was only a little shy of his 308's 200 average miles. Weight difference between the two was about 5kg's so nothing there and the weight split was equal 50/50 with most of the weight carried low so helping balance and grip. The owner has a Tesla as a daily so seems to be a 'committed tree hugger' and so the 308 makes a bit more sense - i'd certainly be tempted to give it a drive just to experience 600Nm torque @ zero rpm & restricted 450hp ! ! !
