john_3.0s Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 If your low on cash mate just spend the summer trawling the car boot sales, I have got piles of good quality tools that I have picked up from them. Make sure you go for the decent stuff, as a rule of thumb the older it is the better quality it is! Dont worry though as tools dont tend to wear out all that easily. Those that come to mind are: Britool socket set (AF & metric) £2!!!! (BEST EVER BARGIN!) timing light £2 air sander £7 impact driver (decent one) £4 Numerous screw drivers / spanners etc set of sierra cossie wheels £14 (OK not tools but OSF!) Power drill £4 Piles of grinding discs and sanding pads Paint (youd be amazed the amount of spray cans some ppl have!) Ofcourse you never know what your going to find, and if u need something then sometimes u have to bite the bullet and buy it new (( But if you have a keen eye then you can build a very extensive set of decent tools at bargain prices, plus its incentive to drag your @ss out of bed on a sunday morning lol

Admin Vista Posted March 8, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 8, 2007 Give your dad the £200 and say "Dad, the trips on me, take me to Santa Pod in your Mexico and lets race all the other OSF boys on Classic Ford day" Then quietly slip all the tools onto your birthday and christmas wish list, you'll get the best of both worlds then
young un Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 that would probably be us at the bottom of the finishjing list as he wont try very hard as its worth too much to him steve
young un Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 is this worth it just for the top box steve

jimbo Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 £240!! I remember that buying me an Escort that I barely had to raise a tool to. Happy Days Without a doubt, one of the few things I have learnt over the last 30 years(and this doesn't just apply to tools) is buy crap, buy twice. So get good stuff. Car boot all the way. Also sign up to your local freecycle group, and see what appears there. http://www.freecycle.org I got a pretty decent torque-wrench off there for FREE! Cheers, Jim
young un Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 my dads on freecycle so ill ask him to look out for me. not that ive even told him yet that i want all these tools i doubt he'll let me have them steve
alladdin Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 ok heres some real world advice. roll cabs are a waste of money at your stage.. they are a nicety for when you already have tools, nevertheless , when you do look at them have a look at american pro stuff. from sealey. i have a ten draw top box 200 ish and its been good for years. tools. as has been said dont but rubbish, it will let you down again i agree with halfords pro.best you will get for the money and GOOD ENOUGH to do a job. i have the large socket set at the house(£150 but often reduced to £99 !) its very comprehensive and a good start point.i recomend it. i like britool or beta spanners but they cost (not me tho !!) i cant see your shop trolly ? have a look in a halfords superstore 1st mate.pro stuff.
young un Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 i cant see your shop trolly you should be able to steve
V8ian Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 GO TO HALFORDS USE THEIR PRO TOOLS GUARENTEED FOR LIFE TAKE YOUR BROKEN BIT IN & THEY REPLACE FREE TRY & GET YOUR DAD TO GET A TRADE CARD IF YOU HAVE TRUBLE GETTIN 1 LET ME KNOW I WORK AT A MAIN DEALER OPPOSITE A HALFORDS I CAN TRY 2 GETYOU 1 PM YOUR DETAILS SEE WHAT I CAN DOO I make that suggeation about right, Halfords Tools are of a good quality, have a lifelong guarantee, Recently they had a £100 special kit that has just about all you will need as a starter set, with the other £100 you can probably but a top box as well from halfords

borneo Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 not that ive even told him yet that i want all these tools i doubt he'll let me have them steve Might be for good reason. Looks like your dad's car is well tidy so i'm guessin he's got a fair collection of decent tools which i'm sure he wouldn't mind you borrowing if you look after them. I'm not saying don't spend the money on tools if that's what you really want to do but you've got pleanty of time to build your own collection. I'll still recomend that estwing ballpeen hammer and the carboot sounds like a good idea if you know what you're looking for
young un Posted March 8, 2007 Author Report Posted March 8, 2007 no my dad bought the car restored and the other thing is that i cant get myself to the carboots and autojumbles and i dont know what im lookoing for steve
