I'm no mechanic, not by any stretch, I'm a pen pusher in finance by trade now, but had to help a lad jump start his car a couple of years back, I'd say he was early to mid 20's.

He genuinely didn't know how. period, where the battery was, positive/negative, nothing!

I think by that age we'd all have been on our backs covered in oil and grease in the street fixing or changing something on some battered old car hundreds of times.

Nowadays, its all new cars on finance with warranties.

My brother is in his mid 40's and asked me to help him change a tyre as he didn't know how.

Sure I said, then pulled out a deck chair from the shed, cracked open a beer and proceeded to issue instructions from a relaxed position

I have been told there is no need to remember things as you can just look it up on your phone. There is definitely a dumbing down of the current generation.

I await the arse wiping app with great anticipation.

Good topic! but it frustrates me now though to know how to do most OLD car related things but not physically able to do them, but then it's a case of knowing and finding the right people who do!

I thought maybe that's what all those new fold-able phones was all about? But you shouldn't be on the phone while your on the can anyways! I hate that echo and have to pretend I don't know where you are really. 🤮
