Since I had the car it makes this noise around 55-60

It 9nly makes the noise if my foot is on the accelerator, if I take my foot off, or press the clutch, or coast at that speed it doesn't make the noise.

Which to me. Means not tyres or wheel bearing🤷🏻‍♂️

Lived with it but now I can hear it around 30 too so I guess it's getting worse.

Thoughts?

I think you will find its the diff

That's what I been told it probably is before.

Possibly pinion bearing?

Or diff worn or??

Remember the old VW Golf advert with the Doris with the squeaky earing!

Yeah, that'll be it 😁

No expert by any stretch, but listening to the video, it did sound a bit 'diffy' if that's a word.

Or as I have recently found out a bearing?

Normally what happens , is the pinion bearings wear, allowing the pinion/crown wheel mesh to change from its correct mesh, and making a howl when you get on and off the power.

the solution is to strip check and repair, or get a good second hand one.

if you are going to rebuild , I’d put a ATB centre in at the same time😀

Thanks very much.

I never took a diff apart before.

Is it something I can attack or am I best off asking someone who has a clue😂

You can do it yourself, you can get the bearings from a local bearing supplier. There are measurements that you need to abide by, you will need access to a dial gauge.

I’m sure there are u tube tutorial’s for building English differential’s

once you have taken you time, and done your first one, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was about😁

I heard about crush bearings and some other odd sounding things which was what scared me😂

building a diff is not for a beginner without the correct tools, ideally you also want some engineers blue or a few permanant markers, i've seen it done with grease, pinion brg preload with the crush tube is important, first job is get the diff out, you may need a halfshaft puller, some fall out an some are a right bastad lol, order some new halfshaft seals as well, once diff is out wash the gears and inspect for damage and or shadows on the teeth face?, if all clear then get yr bearing kit an new pinion seal and rebuild it, best to find someone skilled in the job and watch them do it so as to learn, good luck

My dad's old business partner is a proper mechanic, he loves rebuilding motors and gearboxes, maybe I'll have a word with him an pay him some notes for his time then
