Im hoping to find someone who has or knows a source to purchase a K&N Air Filter for the standard European RS2000 / Mexico air filter assembly. K&N Part number is 33-2509. Im suspecting they are discontinued as the usual retailers no longer have them Amazon even sold them at one point. Even paper ones seem hard to find here. Thanks

Have a used Motorcraft one here, plus the original box!

Not K&N but new:

LOL Thanks. There is a new Motorcraft one on Ebay but its in Germany and they dont ship here, I thought maybe to try get a paper one as a backup when the K&N one starts to fail (which they do in time) Trouble with paper ones is some of them have terrible flow rates and you dont know which are good or bad apart from Motorcraft being good and Fram being bad. Hopefully a NOS K&N will pop up somewhere. I have written to K&N UK and USA to see what they say, with a bit of luck will get a response from them.

Thanks, I did notice Pipercross ones were still available. I preferred a K&N as thats whats in the car at the moment and I use them on the Twincam too. When a local retailer closed down and had a clear out I bought heaps of oil and cleaning solution for less than half price so the cheapskate in me didnt want to waste that LOL But if thats all thats available then I will switch over and get a Pipercross one.

It's your lucky day ... I found the last new one on the planet. Ordered it before someone else does. 😃

Wow really? Where did you find it? Its a Parts desert here. There is nothing. Europe is clearly the place to be for those rare stashes of parts. I just got an email today from K&N UK saying that it was discontinued without a replacement.

Come to the UK via France on a dinghy or even a paddle board and we'll pay for all your Ford parts forever. Plus you'll get a house, phone, food all for free and you don't have to work.

Offer too good to be true? No we welcome you with open arms and wallets. 🤣🤣

Wow that sounds pretty good! We arent allowed to buy houses here anymore they are strictly for immigration only so Im guessing the same applies there. Weird that 🤔. I would need some kind of floaties to bring the Escort too as I dont think it will fit in a regular dingy. Apparently my Grandfather on my mothers side was born in Lancashire so I think you have some rule about 2 generations after being allowed citizenship? Would I still get the free house and food and all the Escort parts I can eat? Or is that only if I do the dingy thing? Wouldn't the French try to stop me though as I understand you pay them millions to stop that sort of thing? 🤣😜

You do need to sink a dingy to be eligible so make sure you take the Escort off first.

If you say to the border staff you have an escort in France, they may give you funny looks but will arrange to bring her across for free too. You're all welcome, come on in! 🤣🤣

You bet I do! I have stopped eating this week in preparation. I told my Chihuahua she has to eat less too but gave me the sad eye routine that shes so little and doesn't eat that much while shaking in the winter cold. Um I just remembered ..... its for a 2.0L Capri so no RS Tax 😜

With K&N their lifetime warranty is for a replacement if something goes wrong. I did in fact have one of their filters blow chunks once and they were really gracious in the USA and send replacements. Their good service in that instance stuck with me and to why I have tried to stick with the brand. In this instance however where Miniliteman has found me the last one for retail sale on the planet, I wondered how a replacement warranty would work? So I asked them!

Their reply (Not entirely unexpected but against consumer law in most western countries LOL)

Hello,

Unfortunately, the warranty ends once the filter is discontinued.

Thank you

Hi James, Have you tried an EMPI filter. They fit them to Volkswagens with weber carbs.

They use similar filter media and come nicely polished. They can be cleaned using the K & N stuff too.

Finally they are cheaper but still well made.

I will look into them thanks. Fortunately @Miniliteman found me that K&N one so it should still be good for a few years. It was just funny what they said about the warranty for it. Im glad new car warranties dont work like that LOL

Just resurrecting this thread to ask the question, in an original European Mk2 RS2000 filter assembly would you use a standard paper filter for better dust protection of a K&N with a better flow but remembering you are bound by the restrictions of the original housing itself?

Just been look at some tests and while the flow is definitely better with a K&N their dirt and dust protection is worse than the cheapest paper filter. So was wondering what balance you would need to strike? While dust isnt a problem in the UK with regular rainfall that keeps it negligible, the opposite is the case here and we even have dust storms. I have always reached for K&N but wondering if i may be doing more harm than good? The other consideration is  getting paper elements for the original air filter assembly is quite difficult which are hard to get even in Europe but simply non existent here.

Think you have answered your own question. Many years ago I assisted someone who did autocross / grasstrack racing. Most of the competitors used K&N filters some used Pipercross but everyone fully cleaned the filters after every run. And never ever used to oil them as it would not clean afterwards. The Mann filter (C3665) is readily available over here also at BurtonPower. (17 quid). If ordering directly at Burton or anywhere in the UK is too costly ask someone to buy one for you and let them post it over to Aus.

PS: looking at the photos are you sure you are not on Mars?

What ado you mean? Dont you get this round your way then?

dust-storm-010.thumb.jpg.82a9999faa6f5c32134016c2198d54ee.jpg

While the photos are a bit of an exaggeration of the problem in that dust-storms like that in Sydney really only occur once every 5 years or so but think of it in an accumulative way and its a very real issue over a number of months.

Are those Mann filters of a reasonable quality and flow?

Only this week Ive faced a similar dilemma with Mums old Toyota Camry from the 80s. I suddenly found no one was stocking air filters for it and the costs of them to special order was about $60 from local sellers yet I could get a K&N for $80 that would last me for years if not the rest of the cars life. But that dust consideration has cast some long term doubts about using K&N these days.
