I've been offered a rebuilt.cosworth engine, proper gearbox and full wiring loom for £10k, is this a good price ? Thinking of getting it for my Mk2 Escort

personally i wouldnt bother , id fit a 2.0 zetec or similar  for far less money

I guess it depends on what route you want to go and what else would ALSO need changing to handle the power of a YB and make it work......, new prop, uprated rear diff/axle, brakes, ECU, throttle bodies or carbs, exhaust etc etc...............

Wouldn't just be £10k and Bob's your uncle, chuck another couple of grand or so on all the other bits.

Love a X-flow in 40's thats what I've got.

Price up what else is needed before making a decision I reckon

I have two escorts. One with a hot 2.2 Pinto and some simple brake and suspension twesks, the other with an all singing and dancing 350bhp YB turbo and all the other bits updated an d upgraded to make it handle and stop better.

The one I get more fun out of and prefer to Drive?

The RS with the 2.2 Pinto.

To build an Escort with a YB turbo with all the other recommended upgrades necessary to get the most out of the available power is a pretty expensive business.

I wasnt going the turbo way, was thinking of putting my  carbs on it

YB from turbo to carbs: new pistons, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, head work like porting and bigger valves, new cams, modification of crossmember or sump.

if theres proof its been rebuilt or modifyed all well and good , if theres no proof  then u could be in a world of pain cash wise

I wouldn't bother personally. That's a huge outlay for the sort of gain that you could probably get close to more cost effectively

As Vista Scott says a well built pinto would be the way to go , my 2.1 pinto is running 180 bhp and drives superb

Cut your budget in half for a claimed 200bhp Pinto here that will require far less in the way of mods to make it fit. 200bhp is ample I'm an Escort.
