YellowTaxi Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 Nice, Black number plates look just plain wrong though.
IainS Posted February 21 Author Report Posted February 21 Cheers mate, I like it better than the old one, not everyone's cup of tea however!
Nige65 Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 Very nice, an Escort that I have always liked and must be a rarity along with the Linnet model these days 👍 1
IainS Posted February 23 Author Report Posted February 23 Hi, thank you very much. I've been trying to find out how many are left, they recon about 26 harriers left, and apparently the goldcrests were the lowest numbers. I've heard on hear in around 2010 they were in single figures but not sure. You can't find that much about them as they were the end of run parts bin! Mines a August 1980 so right at the end. As I'm getting older the sable brown has grown on me, 10 years ago no. Must be growing up🤣
Nige65 Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 The brown looks fine to me, my Sport has a brown interior which looks great too. Wonder how many Huntsman estates are left!
IainS Posted February 23 Author Report Posted February 23 Yes I really like the chocolate interior in mine looks well. Seats are so big and comfy! They are really rare, they never made many to start with, I'd say it will be just above the Escort Capital now.

In The Pit Posted March 21 Report Posted March 21 Stunning car I do like the Goldcrest although based on the L they were virtually Ghia spec. Personally I would also get rid of the awful silver/black number plates (which are illegal on a 1980 car) and lose the rubber aerial and it would be 100% bang on. Ford did special editions very well in the 70's early 80's and they always sold well. I have a Goldcrest (a gold one) that I've owned since 2006 not as tidy as yours, mine is completely standard. I'd say there's more than 26 Harriers though they survived fairly well. Very few Goldcrests and Linnets left now so keep yours nice and standard just how it is. Has your Goldcrest been restored or is that original paint, whats the story with it?

I like them and yes I keep the originals in the boot incase I get a tug. I like the gold ones they are lovely. I've had mine a year, bought it off a lad who I work with who had it for 15 years. He originally got it off a old chap in Essex. Mine certainly usable but not mint at all. I will get it fully restored in the future. She's only done 43,000 miles so quite low. I'm going to get it painted as it is now just as it should be, the interior is really tidy so that's good as that's the hard bits to find. Not for the purists but it's mine and I want more power so a 2.0 zetec on twin 45s, piper cams, Simpson manifold etc going in it so on with building that. I want it looking as originals as possible but to go well. Mines a 1.3 but still not very quick. I don't ever plan on selling it so not a concern for being totally standad. If that's your thing great, but each to their own, it wouldn't be for all to be the same. It's not for anyone else. I'm going to plow some money into her so keep her around for a lot longer time. I did buy some gold/silver 7x13 minilights for her for the summer so will get them on at the weekend and see how she looks. I've got a Instagram page as EscortGoldcrest if you want to check it out and see the progress. Cheers Iain

I had such an original RS2000 Mk2 I just couldnt do anything to it. Sold it and put the funds into a Mk2 Mexico, not a single part original. I can do whatever I want with it. I call it Triggers Broom.😁 I love the thing, Cosworth power now.

Agh wow bet it's ace that, lots of fun! I'd love a XPack yb rs2000 that's the dream one for me!! Exactly, you do whatever you feel with what you have, I'd never of dream of telling someone not to because it's not to my taste or liking. It's what makes the world so good, variation! I want a bit of a sleeper vibe going on, once you start one bit you need to do it all tho, engine, box, brakes, suspension, diff, body. It never ends🤣

If you are keeping it forever then that's not so bad, but worth keeping the original engine and any parts you remove as should you wish to sell it in the future you have the correct parts to offer to any potential new owners. As these cars get older it'll be the standard ones that fetch the ££££, look at RS prices the standard ones fetch a lot more than the messed with ones. As you say great that the interior is in good condition as interior parts (especially seats & door cards) are very hard to find in decent condition now.
Dave Knight Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 Lovely mate. Great colour, love the 70’s colours. All the rage now you know!

I would always keep all the parts, engine etc I take off in case for whatever reason I can put it to back to standad. As they are getting quite old and most have been tinkered around with or modified, unmolested original ones are properly more sort after in some aspects. If it makes money in the future great, if not I'm not fussed either way. It only matters when you come to sell it at the end of the day and I plan to keep it, it's not the most important factor for me.
