I have traditional axle stands that all have a V shape or U shape top to them but for years its bothers me when I used them on the front cross-member like the ends digging into the much wider flat underneath. Ive even added a rubber pad to my trolley jack to stop it doing the same. Ive tried to put wood or buffers on the stands but its gone on so long now there has to be stands with a wider top to accommodate an Escorts cross-member? Anyone found any solutions? Thanks

Searched for similar tools some time ago and found some flat-top axle stands. Look for axle stands for campers or caravans. In the end I didn't bother and got some thick rubber pads that are a tight fit on top of traditional stands.

Im seeing some similar rubber bad tops but how can you be sure the fit tightly on the stands you already have?

I have an older pair of stands with a circular top that is around 75mm across. I use these on the cross member with a wood pad.

You could get a trolley jack pad to fit no doubt.

The adjustment is via a 10mm pin through holes at 25mm increments.

Look out for these, James.

Just seen that Amazon has something similar for sale.

I was brought up on foot and a half lengths of railway sleeper stacked under the chassis rails, I have a variety of axle stands but always feel safer using big lumps of timber supporting the car when the stands are at their height limit, and you can use them on gravel. If there's a lot of pulling and pushing going on, and I'm stuck for space, I'll use stands but put some timber elsewhere under the car so I can't get trapped it the stands rock away.

Car crush is not a pleasant way to expire, but it makes it easier to be delivered to the mortuary as you can be slipped under the door..............

Because none of my relatives want my cars when Im gone (My nephew when offered my Twincam said, "What would I do with that old piece of shit") I have willed RP2000 to be displayed at a motoring museum. I am worried though years later an archivist goes underneath and calls out to the cleaner "Hey do you know there is a flat mummy under here?"  Egyptian he asks in reply? No Bogan who didnt use car jacks
