the reason behind that may be that the cars may still be smouldering and the last thing you want is it to reignite or explode while you are next to it treating a patient, scene safety comes before anything every time, i certainly wouldnt of let him walk into the ambulance/van though with the mechanism of injury

that is bad the way they handled it, the same happened when Daijiro Kato had his fatal crash at Suzuka, he went into the barrriers on the first lap (i think) and the marshals waved yellows and dragged his body accross the gravel, they didnt check to see if he was injured or anything if my memory serves me correct (although i could be wrong) #74 RIP
