Mr Sam Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 i was meant to be following this guy to the pub he goes tearing out the junction so do i trying to keep up i lay off at 30 as its in the middle of town then notice a copper was following me so a good job i did turn left all well behaved indicating changing gear soon as possible not reving it.......and the blue lights come on "you kind of expect to be pulled over in something like that" in anger i chuckle to stay in his good books ......he then points under the rear end "whats the bar why is it holding the exhaust up" "thats the panhard rod its bart of the suspension, the exhaust isnt touching it" i find him my driving licence then even my insurance and log book (still in the car for the mot) i quite rudley question the need for pulling me over and he blanks me after looking at my photocard he radios over to some one about check if the registered owner matches so and so i but in and promptly tell him theres no need for that and im holding the log book i then get queestioned about the tax,,,,,,so point out the tax disk for the blind so and so eventually he gives up with out a leg to stand on as i have all relevant paperwork on me and he still didnt even give me a clear reason for pulling me over and wasting my time
Chris! Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 fookin cops most of them are twat with the exception of daggle
Andy504 Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 In my opinion most of em are to$$ers, i do know a couple of decent ones tho, however they are allowed to do spot checks now and give you no reason for stoppin ya, good if your motor has been nicked but a pain in the ar$e if there a jobsworth ignorant runt.
escortmad79 Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 There's a big clampdown on modified car owners down here at the moment with police targetting "boy racers" in a massive way in Torbay as it's been highlighted as a problem area for it. Maybe it's a nationwide clampdown?
Messenjah Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 erm daggle or someone else please correct me if im wrong .. the police can run urre plate or get ure plate run while they are following you and this should tell them if its insured and taxed etc and who too so surely if it is just a general check a look round the vehicle and checking the driver is the person who owns the car is all they ned to do ! and if the police ARE actually checking ppl randomly it might get a few uninsured drivers off the road and tht can only bee a good thing my run ins with the police ... stopped for speeding ... erm yeah i was speeding my fault ! stoppped for not wearing my seatbelt ... was going from one end of the highstreet to the other at about 20mph as its tyhe mioddle of the da`y and theres alot of ppl milling about then changed my mind about where i was going and as i left the highstreet onto bigger roads i put it on ..... jobsworth apple pie ! imho cautioned for "excesssive speed and possibly unsafe driving on a roundabout" it was 2 in the f00kin morning and i swung the backout on a roundabout the only ppl tht even saw it was a police van and if i had been reeally larking about i wouldve sped off and theres no way they wouldve caught me ... so i just got a warning fair enuff i spose
RFChris Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Thats the problem with the Cops mate. For every good one, who just wants to keep the roads safe and do their jobs. There is always one who is on a power trip and just goes for the "easy target". Chris
MK5 Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 years ago i had a Honda C90 when i was learning to ride a bike... Police pulled me for wearing a leather jacket!!!!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 i got pulled in my last escort (the one that got stolen new years eve) it was last summer it still had the 1300 motor in it i pullede out of a mini roundabout gave it a bit (it was loud because it had big 2" exhaust and stainless tail pipe) i spotted a copper behind me so i just kept at 25 mph down the high street then turned right he followed me then i turned right again on to some waste land he pulled in behind me he said why have you pulled in here i replied why have you he said i was going to pull you up i replied i know you were he said did you see me at the roundabout i replied i saw you behind me once id got onto the high street (he was trying to make out i pulled out in front of him) he then said do you realise how fast were you going i replied yes 25mph how fast were you going he said 25mph so i said what you on about then he said is it because of the exhaust it sounds like you were going faster at this point i thought for fooks sake you were behind me clocking me at 25mph so ijust replied yes he then went on to say i used to have one of these a mexico i replied its not a mexico its a 1300 popular he then started looking round asking if i was sure i replied yes and thought go on ask to look under the bonnet but you wont know what youre looking at anyway he then did the checks over the radio and it all came back fine and said get on your way dont you have stupid conversations with them though i cant stand them
MK II Mark Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 fookin copsmost of them are twat with the exception of daggle Not all of us are, some even like cars especially OSF'S and consider them automotive porn like you. Some are tinker lol's but you get that it every walk of life and nine times out of ten we have performance orientated bosses who insist that every Tom Dick and Harry gets pulled and spoken to. I try and target known criminals who are disqualified and have no insurance. So please, when a copper pulls you for a loud exhaust and if you have got nothing to hide, be nice, smile through your gritted teeth and you should be on your way, after all, not all coppers like confrontation.
over_head_cam Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 I reckon it's like in any other walk of life. The moody ones spoil the image for everyone else. It has been said that the Surrey Police can be a bit 'orrible, but I was working at their headquarters a while back and found them to be just like the rest of us. I dare say the job itself induces a certain amount of stress and that will always be a factor in peoples attitude. Copper or not
zetecrs Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Im a cop, Im not a twat...and I am an OSF nut. I would much prefer to drive a Mk111 tina GXL at work and i/v suspects in the lost property office. Your right there are some jobsworths cops but its the spotty burberry capped Corsa & saxo drivers that are more likely to be stopped. You know the ones with the neon kits underneath , smell of weed from the inside and a stereo and amp worth more than the car. The fact is gone are the days when you can trust paperwork held by drivers. A lot of cars are pool cars, uninsured...often death traps, which low life crims use to do petrol drive offs and ferry other peoples belongings about to sell for a quick score. Personally its these idiots I want off the road so we can keep the road safe for everyone and of course OSF,s. A mate of mine had his low mileage Mk2 escort written off by such a lowlife....................................enough said.
Daggle Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Most details are held on the computer now, so your insurance should show up, 99% of companies are on the system now. Your tax should show up, but unfortuantly it takes a few months for it to show up on he computer, you can also check driving licences on the computer, but you need a date of birth, which means that you will need to stop and speak to the person in order to get the date of birth. The long and the short of it is, the Police can stop anyone, in order to ask to see there documents. They can ask for your licence, Insurance and MOT, if you fail to produce them, then you have committed an offence!. However, you will then be given the option of producing the documents within 7 days at a Police Station of your choice. (thats the producer, that everyone knows about) At the end of the day, I will stop and have a look around older cars, as I have found in the past that older cars (and I don't mean the OSF's that you can easily see are maintained) will not be maintained safely, so tyres will be low, or bald. Also suspension could be worn and tired, plus ppl who drive them tend to be at the lower end of the social scale (yes it sounds bad but stick with me) so they might be disqualified drivers, or be known to the Police so information can be gained from talking to them, if they are Billy Burglar then what better, then to find out what car they are driving at the moment, information that might help solve a crime.... Will probably get shot down in flames for what I have said, but if anyone has a problem with it, then I will try and explain the way it works to you...

Brother, you speak the truth Yes the job is stressful as we see things that most people don't want to... Saxochav never see's the other side of fast driving, last week I had to tell someone that their seventeen year old son was dead as he had been thrown out of his Saxo when he lost it on a fast corner and the fact that he probably would of walked away from it if he was wearing his seatbelt. Sitting in a hospital chapel with greaving parents is no fun so please spare a thought when you get pulled for not wearing a seatbelt, the copper doesn't want to sit in hospital for a few hours every shift... I will get off my soapbox now, rant over

Everyone I see without a seatbelt on gets a ticket no exceptions, at the end of the day I have to go and speak to these families about there loved ones, it pees me off that ppl don't think. Also the ones who don't wear there seatbelt and have only been driving for a few years, its been the law for years and must have been law since they passed there test, so there is no exceptions.......

orionmojo Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 i got pulled in the works golf on monday in one of those 'speed trap' things. i wasn't speeding, but the car came up as uninsured. i was in their car for about 30 mins, and one of the coppers was absolutley sound, the other was ok, but was kind of trying to stamp his authority on me. i just played abit dumb with him, anyway. they rang through to headquarters and checked it all out and everything was ok in the end, its just yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir. be polite and they'll let you on your way. i never really understand why people get annoyed when they get pulled when they know they were doing something wrong! there aren't really any excuses.
Messenjah Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 when youre doing something wrong yeah they can pull u and u have no excuse when you are doing nothing wrong and are just driving arou8nd and they follow you from stevenage to barnet almost door to door just for the sake of following you insured all lights working all tyres good , not speeding , not drunk , not overloaded , only one person in the car , they never stopped me or anything and the chances of them actually going to the same street in barnet from stevenage old town is quite slims isnt it ? just waiting for me to slip up they were grrr
john_3.0s Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Write a letter to the chief constable of that area asking him to advise you on the criteria employed by HIS officers when you were pulled over. And VERY IMPORTANT!!!! never never never give them your drivers license even if you have it as that is seen as an admission of guilt on your behalf, by all means use any other docs/cards to provide ID but not the drivers license, if he wants it then he can request you produce it the local nic. Your not legally obliged to carry your licence with you in the UK. I made the mistake of producing mine once and the officer took the liberty of giving me 3 points providing no evidence or "real" reason other than i was going a bit fast (70 in a 60 dual carridgeway following the flow of traffic). If I hadn't have produced it he would have most likely sent me on my way with a ticking off. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS!!!!
Admin Vista Posted March 22, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 22, 2007 Everyone has a job to do, and like it or not the Police are no exception. Branding all police Tossers (or similar) because you got pulled for doing something wrong / silly (or even if you were completely innocent) is not only unhelpful it's completely innacurate. Next time you're feeling a little put out because you've had your collar felt (rightly or wrongly) before you let off steam, try to imagine what our society would be like if we didn't have people upholding the law. Me? I don't need to imagine it, I've been there and trust me it isn't pretty.
Mrp Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Oh look its another 'lets have a pop at the old bill thread' If you have 'Done nothing wrong' or have nothing to hide then whats the problem?? Its not even 5 mins of you time. You will be the first ones to be putting up another thread 'My cars been pinched and what are the police doing about it' You cant have it all ways. Stop checks are a effective way way of keeping scum off the road and monitoring the ones that are. By the way im not a copper i drive a lorry and have to deal with Police VOSA and ministry of transport. So if anyone should be moaning its me!!
sab6024 Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 My brother had a 2.0S with an Ashley on it. He got pulled over 13 times in Newquay by the same copper telling him the exhaust was too loud. He had to keep taking it to be decibel tested and everytime it came back as being within the limits (just). This copper just kept targetting him because he could. I couldn't see the point. After all it was the same car as last time, same exhaust and the same driver. Why keep pulling it over? Me on the other hand have been pulled for speeding a few times but have never been done for it. Lucky I guess and shouldn't complain. Last time I got pulled I was doing 92mph in a 70 and the copper didn't want the paperwork because it was his first weekend off in 6 weeks. He did say that if he caught me again at that speed, I would lose my licence. I thought that was only if you were caught above a ton?
