Distastefully Modified Old Skool Fords - Show us your worst!
YellowTaxi replied to Vista's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
OK Im going out on a limb. I LIKE IT. There I said it.! Must have cost thousands. -
I have bought a few cars from Car Cave, he's a very decent guy and very knowledgable too. Price seems high to me but them Mk1's are crazy money. I doubt he is trying to dub it as anything other than an imported 2 door base car thats been done-up.
-
Oh yes, I do like R5 Turbos. An Itch I will scratch one day for sure. Proper old style turbo rush.
-
Nice to see you have a background in the car trade, I didnt even have that when I bought my first Ford classic. Im sure the experience you gained in body repsairs will come in handy, all old fords need that. Good luck mate and stick with it. If you get stuck there's a lot of collective knowledge here to draw on.

Stick with it bud. It will be worth it in the end. Owning a classic Ford is a series of ups and downs, you havent had many ups yet by the sound of it but 10/10 for sticking with it. You stumbled on the right place here though, these guys know their stuff. They have done it all before and are still doing it most of them. I was a bit like yourself, knew the basics and back in the day I was a proper tinkerer with cars. Its amazing how much you forget though. I got fed-up with paying other people to work on my cars so ended-up here like you have. My advice: If someone works on your car BE THERE and watch and learn. If you have a question ask, if you dont get a satifactory answer ask on here. You may get a ribbing if its a silly question but roll with it, they are a decent bunch and will help you. Dont throw money at a problem straight away. Sit back, Ask, and here first. Remember Old Fords are very basic, apply logic and chances are you know the problem and know how to solve it. Lastly, enjoy it.! Good luck.

wonder why he removed the fenders, its not as if tyre rub was an issue.

Agree dealers have overheads and need to make a profit but slightly different when selling classics. Buyers are not expecting trouble free motoring for thousands of miles as they would with a modern car. Things go wrong on classics, we all know that. I doubt trade sellers get many warranty claims.
-
I considered selling a car with them. The deal I was offered was they agree a set value with me. Anything over that they get as profit. So..in simple terms they dont take any risk and the seller doesnt get paid out until the car is sold. Obviously I declined their offer.

Escort Mk2 Australian 4 Door RS2000
YellowTaxi replied to YellowTaxi's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CARS FOR SALE
I know of the white car you refer to. I also was in contact and did take a look at it. Unfortunately it had been re-shelled and with so few 4 door RS's made it wasnt done with the strengthened RS shell, so value suffered. Body tags not present either. Shame because it looked really good in the flesh. -
Just take your time and you will be fine. Not fitted a repro rear shelf but I have seen them in place and they ook very good.

Escort Mk2 Australian 4 Door RS2000
YellowTaxi replied to YellowTaxi's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CARS FOR SALE
Thanks for the positive comments, Selling because storage is limited and I have too many cars stored at the moment. Its a shame but storage local to me is in very short supply. If anybody would like any specific pics please ask. Also, forgot to mention car is UK registered in my name. Other things I forgot to mention: Car has been converted for unleaded fuel. No speaker holes in doors. Original radio New radiator New battery New standard exhaust Drives better than any Mk2 I have ever owned or driven. -
Escort Mk2 Australian 4 Door RS2000

I have a 4 door Original RS2000. Obviously I know It will never make the money a 2 door car in the same condition would. But Its in great condition, never been welded. Full MOT. Shell is mint. Recent Aldridge Recaro seat re-trim. Polished RS Alloys just been refurbished, new Pirelli Tyres. Engine completely standard. as is the whole car. Drives like an RS should. Looking for 17k If it where a 2 door it would be 30k all day long. Just gauging reaction before it goes to auction. Welsh/Monmouth border. Come and have a look.
-
I have done both Sheele's and RS Recaro's Aldridge covers fit very well indeed. I have changed foam too, also from aldridge. Its really not hard at all. Webbing can be bought from ebay by the metre and is easy to change. You will be amazed how different a bit of new webbing makes. You will need the following: Contact adhesive. Hog rings and pliers. Double sided carpet tape. Good stapple gun. Im not that good at most things so if I can do it anybody can. Its really not that hard and best done in pairs, strip one first and use the other for reference if you get stuck. Once you have done one its easy from then-on. The end result is well worth the effort and as re-covered seats go for crazy money its well worth doing.
-
Early UK RS2000 had a Girling servo. Later changed to ATE around July 78 if I remember correctly. About that time a low brake fluid warning was also fitted as standard.
-
That looks sweet. Love the colour combo. You must be a proud owner.
-
Two birds sitting on a Perch, one says to the other. Can you smell fish.
-
Oh my God. Beige. TR7 Front. Allegro rear. Vinyle roof. Come on guys, Whats not to like.!
-
its a funny old time for ford at the moment. some go for really big money if completely standard. one went for 7k recently.
-
Nothing shabby about 125hp on that spec, as you say irs how it drives and with that curve I bet its ace. Enjoy it.
-
Return it to standard spec. Good money to be made on that car. Its just too good to mod. Well, thats what I would do anyway.
-
Love the 4 door Mk1 above. What a refreshing change from the normal resto. Brave choice of interior and that engine hits the spot. Really works for me. If the car was discribed to me I would say no way, but in the flesh 10/10. If I owned it I wouldnt change a thing.
-
Yep, Car cave. Will look better in my Garage. Should take delivery any time now.
-
Here my recent purchase. Its an Import but nice condition, Will be going the full monte on this one. Cosworth N/A powered. Full interior re-trim. 7.5 RS alloys. Atlas axle Looking forward to getting started. Its staying ORANGE.
