They are not mine by the way. I have in the past bought the exact same seats though and covered them.
-
If you decide to go down the fishnet route these seats are identical to Mk2 RS2000 Recaro's. Aldridge covers go straight on. They are Cortins Mk5GLS seats. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385234980779?hash=item59b1cb4fab:g:GC8AAOSwia1jdAIo&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoCW82WakYJW%2B1cVptdkoBXLC1DhW6UPRxqpcM0yjWbc6JRlAwv4ylihFbWfD1qa3bDxuntCQFc9jwSW8L0TkGi1Q2YB52SPGcWLiSovYWxHQu1%2FFBBc92Udc2ui%2BRYvLmMsQJyMwhHDCAvjpkPsiNwxcUxw0W4TuXt5KIwReydVLBN%2FCF8mquojkKQ5vskimqfSxKcYDGIG6N91fzkSEE6w%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR-zts7acYQ

Yup, Left hand one is a Ford Ignition lock Circa 70-80;s. Middle ones are Mk3 Cortina and Left hand is a boot lock, Mk2 Escort or Cortina.

Paul Mount happy to join the group
YellowTaxi replied to Paul Mount's topic in NEW MEMBERS INTRODUCTIONS
Looks good. I have had three classic fords with JEV registrations. Originates from Chelmsford I believe. -
Yep, Thats the problem, tyre size on older sizes has little relevance on what they actually measure.

You got a very nice looking car there. I bet that 'evolves' over the years in your ownership. As for the Mexico stripes, go for it. If you decide you dont like it just remove them. These cars we own are a constantly evolving being and are never ever finished. Drive it, tinker with it and enjoy it. Welcome to the fold.

Agree 100% recarding 'authenticity' of Fords. My Mexico was re-shelled when only 4 years old. Most old Fords have a few stories to tell. I sold a completely standard RS2000 4 years ago with a genuine 40k miles. It made crazy money. I loved the car but as it was so original modifications wherte a complete no-no. My current car, Mexico Mk2 has had so many mods its probably over 75% non original and to be honest thats how I like it. Check out the HCVA. https://www.hcva.co.uk/ These guys are a bunch of enthusiasts trying to take on the DVLA head-on. Their aim is to authenticate cars for what they actually there and then with a certificate to proof. My view on the subject is none of the cars we love and drive are really worth whats paid. If a genuine 100% original car is your thing buy one and pay over the odds. If you want a car you can live with and drive buy one thats been messed with. BUT. dont buy a car because it will be worth 'x' amount in the future, buy it because thats what you want. We are at the end of the day car enthusiast not car dealers.

Old classic tyre sizes are a nightmare. You can look at two 185/60 13 tyres from different manufacturers and they will be a totally different width and profile. My advice is to look at tyres fitted to a car next time your at a car show and if you like them buy the same. I have wasted tons of money on tyres trying to get the look right.

Any of these Parts European Old Skool Ford?
YellowTaxi replied to Rally Pack 2000's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
They look like Mk3 Cortina guages to me. I needed a new temp gaug for an RS2000 Mk2 a while ago, bought some old stock that looked just like that. They didnt fit. Eithjer way these are fairly early FORD guages as all fords changed to orange needles in about 1979. -
Its the same with all TV car resto shows. If they actually showed what really happened it would be great for us but boring for the other 95% of the viewing public. I had a bit to do with Richard Hammonds one currently showing. Its really all smoke and mirrors but thats how they have to do it. Not defending any of them but I do watch them and 'read between the lines'.

Abandoned, Dumped and Forgotten!
YellowTaxi replied to Rally Pack 2000's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Is it me or does that Capri look like the most sinister thing you ever saw? -
I tried Evans too. It was on a fresh built engine so no issues with residue water. I ran it through summer and to be honest it always ran hot 95 Deg + sometimes. I knew everything was OK rad, stat etc as everything was new. In desperation I drained it and filled with water/antifreze mixed to correct ratio. It ran bang on middle of temperature gauge in all weathers from that point onwards. Im sticking with water/antifreeze mix from now on, it was an expensive lerning curve, but if you dont try you dont know I suppose. Having said all this I do know many top end cars run on it so I suppose it does depend to some degree on the car/engine etc.

MKI Mexico
YellowTaxi replied to Rallye's topic in READERS RIDES (PAST & PRESENT) PICTURES, BROCHURES & ARCHIVES
Wow, Never seen a Mk1 from above. If I didnt know I would have sworn it was a capri. Doesnt the boot look short compared with the bonnet. -
Yup, The wheels in your shot are Cortina wheels that would have had Chrome rings fitted, hence the rebate for the spring clips. 'Wheel Embellishers' they called them back in the day. Where are you based? Pretty sure I have a set of proper deep dish ones knocking about. And just to confuse you even further even deep dish escort ones come in two flavours, both identical from the front but SA Escort Sport ones are diffrent from behind. More welded lugs on genuine UK Mex / RS ones.

And why would you remove the number plate light from the bumper and put what look like trailer lights on instead. Perhaps its a Spanish thing.

Warned MK2 escort interior light
YellowTaxi replied to Johnny Boy's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD PARTS WANTED
Yup, I googled it too. Whole new world has opened up.! -
I have often pondered this. My Cosworth engine runs blue and its very rust inside everything. It seems the ant-corrosion aspect of anti-freeze is as total waste of time. Also kept in a heated garage so itsv never going to freeze anyway.
-
Compared with an Escort Fiesa's are good value. I suppose it depends on what you want. If you want a car to drive then yes its a good buy as Im sure it goes nicely. If you want to 'invest' then its always going to be hampered by the no standard items.

And for my next question.. name that noise..
YellowTaxi replied to chinkamon's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
I have heard that noise before but cant for the life of me remember what it was. Very annoying though. If and when I remember I will let you know. -
Twin 40s (Italian Weber ) wot they worth?
YellowTaxi replied to chinkamon's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Very dificult to put a price on. If someone is restoring a Twin cam or something and wants period carbs I would imagine you could name your price. These days though most either go for new Spanish ones or EFI. Put em on Fleabay, you never know. -

We are talking Idle jets here and not Immulsion tubes? They also have an 'F' designation number.
