Slik 50 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 If i would have known how much my car would of cost to get the engine sorted I would of offerd you about £800 for it! Looked nice last time I saw it
Gareth Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Here goes the same old reply: It's worth whatever someone's willin to pay, so I'd say a fiver In all honesty though, if it were mine, I'd put it up for £1500 or thereabouts
FlashCadillac Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 iv been toying with the idea of selling it for a while but its my first car and i think im quite attatched to it... ...it was being trailerd through a petrol station yesterday (id broken down) and some guy offerd me £1000 for it as it was with no MOT... he seemed extremly dodgey especially when he wanted the trailer it was on aswell... i took his number and now i think i do want to sell it (but not to him) i need something else to drive so i can go the the NASC spring Nats on the 11th May
Admin Vista Posted April 23, 2007 Admin Report Posted April 23, 2007 I'd stick with it if I were you mate, all old cars have problems from time to time we just learn to live with it. If you do sell it, I'd lay money that in 12 to 18 months time you'll want another one and the only ones you can find will be dog eared and still asking more money than you got for your current one..
FlashCadillac Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 what i want is complicated i have a lot of plans for the capri... when i finish uni im going to take it off the road, get it dipd all welded up anodised all the prep work they do to modern cars, all new suspencion, i want to put a durotec in it, black leather interior, basically want it as a new car that looks like an old one (but without power steering) the problem is im a uni student that has little money and i cant afford to do this untill i finish uni and get a job the car is getting to the stafe where it needs two new wings, two new rear arches and a paint job, i cant afford to do this so i would have to run it for another 2 year unill i have a job... i just dont think the car will last that long. my thoughts were sell this one, get somthing cheap that i can do more work on myself and buy another capri in a couple of years but like you said i wont be able to find one then and if i do it will probably cost the earth.... i just dont know what to do... all i know is i miss having a car and i need something to get to shows in this year
Ian1300 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Cover all the rotten parts in shit loadsa grease and anything that will stop it by rusting for the time being then run it for 2 years and then build your new motor! and in the mean time get all the bits you need. or store it?? It seams a shame to sell it now (it looks a great car) and then your still gonna want one in a few years time + the prices are rising so it will be more expensive to get one in the same condition as you sold yours for in a few years time. Its a tricky one, i dunno the only one who can decide is you. Good luck
BigDave Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 1300XL what? Is it an Escort by any chance?
FlashCadillac Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 1300XL what? Is it an Escort by any chance? nope... the capri in my sig pic
FlashCadillac Posted April 23, 2007 Author Report Posted April 23, 2007 i thought about storing it and that is what i would like to do but then i cant afford to buy anything else i didnt want to cover the rough bits purely because i didnt want to drive around in a car coverd in primer but it might be the way forwards.... ...did have my heart set on a 100e though my mind is going around in circles
BigDave Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Got be worth £1500 all day long then mate. I see capri prices going up this year, in fact they already are doing!
Richierich Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Thats a tough choice, at least if you keep it you'll already know whats wrong and what needs doing. Just look at the way osf prices have gone up in the last few years. If only i'd known i'd have stocked up a warehouse full of em!!
Doc Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 £1500 plus mate especially one thats not been messed with . I reckon on flea bay on the right day it would top £2000 easy . Not many 1300s left at all
bronze4door Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 keep it u will be guted if u sell up i couldn't sell my escort as it was my first car
Daveyboy20 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 If you want to get new panels and paint in the future i recommend finding the cheapest option of patching it up, ie. get some quotes on the welding and a little carb tune (i take it it still runs a bit funny?) for the MOT. Once its road worthy but a bit rough, patch it up bit by bit and keep running it as you'll miss it loads. Believe me. If you sell it you'll spend a portion of the money on a shit little FWD car and end up thrashing it coz its so boring, or buy a decent old car for cheaper than yours that you slowly end up realising is just as bad. In my opinion mate, patch it up and just keep it running through uni it'll be easier to sort afterwards plus you'll be the guy at uni with the awesome capri, even if it does have patches of primer (use red oxide anyway it'll look like an awesome ratrod in the making) Thats my opinion mate, and im just coming to the end of my degree, wishin that my capri was in better nick!!
capriaddict Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Don't sell it, in two years time you ain't going to find another one cheap enough plus like Doc says 1300 capri's are pretty rare allready. Also your car is tax exempt therefore a modern car will cost more to run. If you like i'll ask my good friend in Sittingbourne if he'd be willing to help you out with any running probs that you've got (he's as mad on capri's as i am). Cheers

Cheers that would be great... its strange whats up with it, the is petrol getting to the cylinders, there is a spark, the air flow is good but yet its starts and then dies straight away.
martymk1 Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 don't sell it, it looks really good, & theheels are cool

Nettles Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Tough choice fella but if you do decide to sell give me a shout. I’m local to you and could collect very easily.
105Nick Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 Don't sell it mate, that cars wicked. I just need a petrol tamk for the anglia and that's going to be sold, I've receipts for £2200 and it still needs lots of welding, just about to order some escy stuff to get that on the road. Hey what about that drink man?
